BE VERY CAREFUL OF YOUR DEALINGS ON AUDIO-ASYLUM

I have entered in to some dealings on Audio Asylum trader that are less than honorable......I made a deal with a established dealer to trade some rather expensive Atma-Sphere amplifiers for some basket case Altec amps.......After sending the well packed and insured amps , they where received in good order to the Audio Asylum dealer.......Keeping in mind that this dealer made no effort to ship my part of the deal during the week his amps were shipped....After no less than ten phone calls he tells me he doesn't know how to pack them, so I told him to take them to a "Pack and Ship" store and ship them....I would share the cost of shipping..........He has now fell off the face of the earth....no calls, no e-mails, no nothing......he will not answer the phone or in anyway communicate at all........Later this week I will put his Audio-Asylum business name on here.....What are your thoughts on this ???????  .

I guess the OP is hiding in shame.
It would be nice if he offered Lee an apology.

Actually the link does explain what eventually happened. I’d say it looks like the complainer jumped the gun.
That (useless) link is the SAME ENDING as here. Three tracking numbers. Means nothing. Could be three boxes of rocks. There is not resolution to this story. Thanks to the vanishing op
I don't think there's anything sinister here.
I've dealt with autospec before, and we heard from the dealer in Nebraska as well- he had some questions about operation. Sounds to me like he was a bit slow shipping out the trade amps, but other than that I think this was all on the up and up.
In this case, sounds like buyer and seller are both morons.

Buyer: where is your apology?
So... did the item ARRIVE? or was it just a box of rocks? MY bet is on the box of rocks.... Since the op has vanished, maybe it was something ... (more sinister)
I had the same experience with ' HIGH END PALACE " in Florida . Word of the wise . do not ship your stereo componets for trades or cash . Once they have your equipment there attitude changes for the worse . Thats no B.S.

There are people that have had luck with contacting local PD in the others' town.  Explain it as 'theft by deception', and offer to email them screen shots of the entire deal, all communciations, photos of your equipment, package/mailing receipts, etc.  Some PD's will pay a visit.  You suffer nothing by doing this now.  What's the worst that will come of it for you?  He'll feel pressured to get it done?  Oh well for him/her.
@puzzleman.
Thanks for the informative and powerful post. I think the FBI is much appreciated by posts such as yours.
we are a litigious society, hire a lawyer in the city, country where you mailed the item. You might want to get him to hire a PI to make it easier to find him and convince him.
For a small fee i would drive there from Pittsburgh PA., And settle this matter for you, and I'd take a few buddies and we'll ride our Harley's !!  Good luck !!
Will, even if this works out, I think you were a bit naive and gave this seller too much slack. When communication ceases it usually indicates an issue. Everyone has global access to email etc. "I was on a trip" isn't valid in today's world. After a few days of "MIA" behavior, you need to take action.
I agree that Paypal is a great help in these situations and would only do long distance transactions with Paypal and/or credit card fraud protections. Cheers,
Spencer
Auto spec,

I know you received those tracking numbers but have you received the unit yet?
Buyer beware. Had some dealings with skyfi.nyc. They shipped my preamp only in its original box by UPS gorillas. Heard something rattling. Broken capacitor and loose transformer.  Cost $230.00 to repair. Technician said I was very lucky.  That being said, unit performs flawlessly.   But, DOUBLE BOX please!
Will, the Asylum is no worse than any other site. Your sample is precisely one. And its’s not even a sale, it’s a trade. So perhaps you might want to rail against the additional exposure that one has in a trade as opposed to with the protections of an outright sale, rather than disparageing the Asylum both over there and over here.

Folks should be circumspect whenever buying gear, anywhere. I have bought dozens of items on the Asylum without issue. Granted, only a slightly larger sample than yours. I hope you enjoy your amps.

I presume the 'tracking numbers' were genuine and finally got your result from the deal?
I'm sorry when anyone has problems with out AsylumTrader site. However, we warn everyone to always use a credit card or Paypal to avoid problems. The reality is our only leverage is banning posters and deleting ads. It isn't because we don't care, it just true.

If the person is a long term member, then we will contact them and try to resolve the problems. In this case, the first that I heard about it is this morning when one of our members emailed me to take a look at this thread. I haven't seen any emails from the poster here, none.

If someone wants to alert us, it's easy. Every ad has an link in the upper left: Flag Ad: Miscategorized  Spam or Suspicious

Folks should contact us directly rather than complaining elsewhere.

For anyone else with similar problems.
Since the transaction involved the internet and a money transfer, this is a federal matter.
As a social worker I know how to use the system. When this happened to me, I phoned the FBI Internet Fraud Division nearest the dealer, and spoke with the head agent. I requested he send a letter to the dealer warning him of consequences. Instead, he personally showed up at the dealer's place of business! The dealer then phoned me in a panic and I received a full refund. The system is there for you, you just need to use it.
Great news autospec!
I’ve been buying a lot more things (mail order) since moving to the country, and worry a bit each time I do.

I’m glad this worked out for you.

From your description I cant tell whether you are talking about a trader who offers units on Asylum Trader or Asylum Trader is offering items for sale.  That kind of sloppy language will get you in trouble.  For the information of readers I dont think the Trader offers anything for sale - only lets members advertise units for sale.
A tracking number and having the correct product properly packed are 2 different things.
@autospec, I am glad that it looks like it will work out for you.  Getting a tracking number is a good start.  Please keep us informed.
let's wait and see how they're pack and what state they're in when they arrive...…..
Sorry about the problem.

+1 on the “mean guys” visit. Why not rent a Lincoln Town Car, have them dress in black and white suits and all wear the same Maui Jim sun glasses? An interrogation by a squad of “Agent Smith” types should rattle his box...

Here’s your approach:

Thanks to all for the non-event. As if we don’t have enough to worry about. Uh, wasn’t this an Audio Asylum issue, anyway?

What are my thoughts on this???....My thoughts on this are, “Give me a break! No reason for all the hysteria.

I am sorry audioman58. You 'should' read the recent posts, instead of just the first one and then rush down to post your opinion.
FBI online Fraud dept call or file a complaint ,
or call his local police  dept , someonewill go to his door.
If you know his address call his local police dept,
and tell them he scammed you, or the FBI they now have a online
internet fraud dept. and also  mail fraud. Send him a certified letter as well as a email if he does not comply within 3-4 days call the police in his local area, if no satisfaction his state
FBI internet fraud over $2k is a federal offense.
make the demand and tell him a deadline date send him also a link to theFBI
online  fraud dept. best of luck.
Why would this guy agree to sell product he couldn't pack for appropriate delivery?  Duh?😖
I think 5 days is plenty with no confirmation. He would not answer your requests and said he didn’t know how to pack them. Your amps arrived at his place on time in good condition. He is in the business of fixing audio gear and doesn’t know how to pack? I hope they arrive ok.
