I just heard from customer X who told me his big Acoustats sounded great with 9. His big system, the classified one, has 11. I’m not saying 8 or 12 won’t be just as good.

You might try the two new ones farther away from the laser - near the outer boundaries of the transport surface. Since scattered light gets emitted out the outer edge of the CD. 

I’ll affix 1-2 more nearer to the laser assembly track. Let’s hear how that sounds....

Rectangles are roughly the equivalent of 2 squares. 

I didn’t mean to imply 8 or 10 are magic numbers. But I did find out it can be overdone. That discovery was made on a classified system. The moral of the story is more is not better. It’s not necessary to cover the entire tray surface. The NDM is currently going out with 10. Subject to change without notice. Your patience is appreciated.

I see only 6 squares/rectangles in your photo of the top loader. Am I missing something?

I now have about 10 days of watching the improved video and hearing the improved audio from my New Dark Matter treated Oppo 203. This is a nice improvement to an already good player. I really think if you system uses CD's or DVD's this is an upgrade worth trying.

The NDM needs to be close to where all the action is as the objective is to reduce the power of the scattered light inside the transport compartment below the level that can be detected by the photodetector which is 75% of full reflected beam. It’s more straightforward in front loaders because you can see, as you said the NDM is right where all the action is. However I think as anywhere inside the transport compartment should be OK. The entire transport compartment is lit up with scattered light, even though most of it is invisible.

But GK is a big boy and can stand up for himself quite readily.
I would agree that you may find better effect inside a traditional front loader, that large cutout is exactly where I stuck a load of the NDM.

I’ve detected little change in SQ when the thin NDM discs are applied to the top loader surface. The top loader has nearly a 100% surface of uniform blackish grey color. Only the spindle and laser track cutout (only narrow enough to accommodate the laser assembly track) is “open” area to the inside of the transport. I’ll remove the disks after a few listening sessions to see whether the SQ changed.

I strongly suspect these NDM discs will work better at improving SQ for a front loader, as the typical CD tray has a huge cutout upon which the CD sits on the perimeter. I’d imagine all the laser light reflections, deflections and diffractions are escaping though that large cutout gap in the tray and bouncing off interior electronics boards inside the player. I’ll be testing my Oppo front loader Blu-ray player with these NDM discs next.

A quantum well is a potential well with only discrete energy values. The classic model used to demonstrate a quantum well is to confine particles, which were originally free to move in three dimensions, to two dimensions, by forcing them to occupy a planar region. The active ingredient in the Intelligent Chip - Quantum Dots, I.e., “Artificial Atoms,” for which particles are confined in all 3 dimensions to the (nanoscale) de Broglie wavelength. A torrent of Photons is emitted in a chain reaction when the quantum dot is stimulated by external energy such as a laser.

That’s a deep subject.

So I received the kit in the mail over the weekend. I was going to initially use the kit with my Oppo Blu-ray SE-83 front-loader player. I bit the bullet and applied the kit to my Jay’s Audio CDT2 MK2 top-loader CD transport instead. The listening sessions are ongoing.

Well, they are directional, aren't they? Top surface absorbs; bottom surface does not. Lol

Indeed the NewDark Matter with the adhesive paper to attach the Squares is super thin and Easy to apply. A 10 minute project at maximum. 
I continue to be impressed with the improvement after installation that my Oppo 203 DVD player is showing.
added bonus- there is no break in time and the Dark Matter Squares are not directional!

The active NDM material, the small Super-thin squares, is not adhesive so Super-thin double-sided adhesive is necessary to attach the NDM to the upper surface of the CD tray. Total thickness NDM + double-sided adhesive less than 1/32”. Bingo Bango Bongo!

Now George will say it's the same old group of gullible snake oilers trying this as those who peddle fuses, mats etc.

I would agree that some are the same members but for a total different reason.
More its the same group of people because they are open and receptive to the possibility that tweaks can work and are willing to try them.

Not every tweak works for every person, I have had some I have returned.

Imho the NDM did seem to have an effect in my little battery powered Sony Discman. This had GK previous Turquoise inside which I removed to replace with the NDM.

Sometimes you just have to work around GK foibles!

Yeah, I admit that there seems a lot of merit to this kit after having read additional info from Geoff’s website.
