Queen on American Idol

Gotta love this, who could even come close to Freddie's range? I dont expect much but will be great to hear covers from my Idol of the 70's and 80's. Anyone following the show, predictions of who will perform what and who will excel? Katherine singing Love of my Life and Chris singing We will Rock you are my predicitions.
velo62
What about that ghetto chic from hell, didnt she look like a crumb character from Traffic? Thats all I have to say about that...
Wait till next year, I think this season ender set the bar for some really great future ones....it is going to grow and grow as a big time event. Blige was acting like a diva and rude, Toni Braxton wasnt miked right, prince was very good, I hate the camp fire songs though...wish they could shake that cheesy stuff, all the same it is family friendly TV with a real world implication, not like every other show like these where the winner is a mear trivia question 3 months later.......and the Clay stalker was fricken funny when he came out..but whats up with that hair, also loved the "Awards" good for a laugh !
Yep Velo62, I too, was wondering about Prince's backup singers. What a highlight of the otherwise cheesy finale. I enjoyed his performance too. He acted like royalty too. Did his thing and no cheesy BS.
On AI, Personally I liked Katherine, though.
Pretty cool finally, had some silly fillers but love the Burt Bacharach tribute. Whats the deal on Mary J Blige, didnt anyone inform her she was singing a duet? Totally BS selfish self promoting performance, she finally remebered Yamin was on the stage and hoisted him by 1 arm like he was a turkey. Gotta love prince, where does he find those backup singers? Would have loved to seen the meatloaf of the 70's when he had fangs perform with Katherine, she would have been covered in his sweat and slobber! Was an entertaining show, nice break from rap and hip hop.
Chris has the talent but I became bored with him. I myself favor Kat and Elliot. Elliot was so good last week. No winner will have control over any aspect of production so the CD will be mainstream. Still, I'd buy a CD by either of those 2.
Given that Fuel is his favorite group I could care less what he does. He'll make a great frontman for them though, he does have a great voice but terrible music taste. He should really thank Idol for making him sing different forms of music. I would also like to see Katerine do some Jazz she has a great voice and look!
Id also spend money on a well produced Katherine Jazz cd. I saw her first audition when she sang God bless the child and was blown away. She needs to stay away from the Whitney, Celine, boring drone of today's power singers and focus on Ella, Nina, Billie or just be herself even though she is still young and has some maturing to do. Hopefully she will sign up with Blue note or some other label and not sell out on being the next " it brat " or a pop star. She is prettier and has a better voice than Diane Krall, she will go far if she makes the right choices.
Velo62, you crack me up. You are correct though. Chris is simply too good and off mainstream to be an American Idol. Among the final four, he's the only one I'd spend money to hear. He'll do great if he can get a more engaging personality.
They did him a favour, could you imagine him being paraded around the malls of the US as the trophey boy for AI? He should now focus on a minor pot possesion bust, straighten his street cred and wash the stink of Idol off of him.
Simply unbelieveable that Chris is out; he is by FAR better than anyone they have ever had on the show--always consistent.
Velo62, Ace did ask for a marching beat pseudo militaristic. Which was immediately squashed, thank God!. This upcoming week should be interestng?
How about choosing songs from a mediocre singer (albeit a great writer) like Paul Simon? That would give these amateur voices a better chance to shine.
Good show, Paris and Katherine kicked ass. Taylor had a strong finish and Chris did a decent job. Good vocal by Elliot but a crappy jacket, and Ace will squeek by another week. Kelly started great but her chances are better at being the next Mrs. Stewart, thats the way I saw it in that order. When will Katherine finally wear something sexy and wrap up this contest once and for all!
well it was a great show, although I thought it would actually be Rod Sewart songs, if performance means anything clearly Kelly should go, but she probably has a better chance to stay than Ace...by far those two were the worst, all in all a really great show.

Chris has the lead in displaying studio-like professional chops in general, but that doesn't get an "idol" award. Simon has soured on him. And in some instances, for good reason, given that he sticks to the Pearl Jam formula stylistically. The one time he departed from that, he got hit for being "boring". That song was great. He's being penalized for stretching.

Chris is _by far_ the most confident and powerful singer left, and the most likely to get a contract after the show. He put's everything into his vocal, and a few shows ago, left my family (6&9 yr old girls included) breathless. He's had a couple misadventures lately, but that's largely on Simon's feedback.

The guy's on a mission, and you read that in his song delivery and affect on stage. He's every bit Eddie Vedder and more-- IMO. My pick for Idol, though Pickler looks to be Simon's darling, wonder what goes on behind the scenes? What trash TV, though my girls are hooked, and so I go there too.
I'm really not into AI (life is too short to listen to lousy or mediocre singers) but my wife watches the show. The Queen theme was a definite draw for me at the same time thinking how any of these idols could possibly cope or get close to Freddie's range? Taylor was the smartest to me. Do a song that doesn't take a huge range and mug for the camera while having fun. Although he doesn't have the best voice on the current crop, his act and intelligence in trying not to do something his voice could not do, made him a winner in the performance that night. Also choosing Queen really screwed the women. There are few female professional singers that can sing anywhere close to Freddie's range.
This can be a "popularity" contest as much as a singing contest, hence why Ace is still there, the girls like him. I expect Kelly to be one of the last for the same reason, athough she has more talent IMO and could do some Country.

I hope Chris stays true to how he sings, which I expect he will, even though the judges seem to contradict themselves. Simon praised Chris a number of weeks back for staying true to himself, the other judges agreed. A week or so later Simon criticized Chris saying he can't sing the same way every week! Which is it Simon? BTW, since when does an artist have to sound different on every song?

If Chris gets a contract, hopefully they will not destroy his sound, like with Bo. Chris is not a Pop artist, if they market him in Rock I think he could be HUGE.

I also think Katharine could be HUGE if marketed in the right arena. She reminds me of someone that could follow in steps such as Diana Krall or Norah Jones.
Huh! Ace is still there, we'll see about next week. Bucky was unfortunate enough to a) not be the best talent and b) be first in the line-up (have you noticed how the firsts end up last?). Let's see what happens next week. Q: Who can do Rod?" A: Almost anybody -- especially when it comes to standards.
Oh Mama Mia , as Freddie would say...Fun watching this car wreck. Paris, Elliot and Katherine a tie for effort. Kelly for a set of balls, then Bucky for being Bucky. Chris was off at a Pearl Jam concert, and Taylor was a poor grey haired drunken Elvis. Ace, jeez dude...I didnt hear you ask Brian May for an urban upbeat tempo on we will rock you.
You're right Bander, Elliot has one of the best voices -- I wish he would sing in different styles to attract a broader following. So far, he's been pretty one dimensional and that's a hard thing to pull off if you don't have Hollywood looks.
I'm suprised no one has mentioned Elliot. He's one of my favorites. Lots of talent there.
I have actually enjoyed this season of American Idol. It will be cool to see Queen on stage. I think Chris, Katherine, and Taylor will probably rise to the top given the material. It will be interesting to see what song each of them pick.

(I really enjoyed Chris Daughtry's homage of "LIVE" doing Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line".)

Chris
Yea right, she is 14 yrs younger than me and quite a looker. Afraid she holds the remote in that deal too.
John, You know how to fix the wife clutching of the remote issue? You need to leave a "Trading Spouses" application in plain sight! Here's the application link for you to print off a copy. Good Luck! http://www.tradingspousescasting.com/ts_submission.htm
Well, couldn't be more ludicrous -- or any worse -- than watching the "Queen With Paul Rogers" concert on PBS...
It should be a very interesting show. I think it will come down to Kellie, Katherine, and Chris. However, Katherine doesn't do mainstream and might not be getting the votes her voice and capability deserve to make it to the end.
When I do watch, it's D for me. It's kind of like watching a car wreck and enjoying it. But, to each his own.
You forgot D ) Frank, a wife clutching the remote with 2 hands saying deal, or no deal!
Velo62... Wow of all the folks I wasn't expecting a American Idol thread to have been posted by you. Lets see A.) Your system is sounding so great with no future upgrades in sight? B.) There's nothing on Agon worthy to even click on, or talk about? or C.) Your so frustrated with your system that youv'e turned to American Idol for your musical enjoyment?
Velo, I agree that all will have problems with the range. But it will be a hell of a show while they try! I agree too that Katharine and Chris should go to the finals, but I doubt that they will since Katharine has already been in the bottom three and Chris is too much of a rocker (which is fine with me, but I don't personally vote 10 million times after every show and that's what it'll take). Kellie will probably go all the way even though she's a good, but not great singer. Guinness -- I bet you're right about Taylor's choice, that would be perfect. Who'll do Another One Bites the Dust, Bohemian Rhapsody, You're My Best Friend or Under Pressure. They'd all be good songs.

Interesting that you mention Katharine and Chris, I feel they are the two best...time will tell how the votes come out.
