Seeking advice on several specific MC Step Up Transformers
I have a Bob's Sky10, which works quite well set at 5:1 with either of two cj phono stages.  I recommend that you talk to Bob about your application.  In my experience when it comes to SUTs, less is more.
Soundsmith Progression: MIMC Star > Sussurro Mk II
Motivated like the rest of you by the great promotional pricing, I went whole hog and bought a Hyperion MkII.  Phono Stage is a Conrad Johnson TEA1series3.  The high gain stage has a fixed loading of 430 ohms.  Right now it is mounted in my Techni...

Vinyl***What If***
I fell in love with records and started collecting with "Good Night Irene" by Howlin' Wolf around 1950.  My parents wanted to disown me because I kept sittin' on the records and breaking the damn things.  78s ya know?  Anyway I was in my terrible ...
Review of WaxTime In Color Pressings
I have several WaxTime re-issues, at least one has no color and if I am not mistaken at least one other is light green, but I could be wrong on the color.  Anyway, WaxTime records have been excellent overall, they sound good, they are quiet, and t...
Is anything better than the Accuphase T-100?
If you like your Accuphase T100 then there is no reason to shop for others.  It is truly one of the great tuners.  FM broadcasts that do more than MP3 quality are almost gone, and damn few even measure up to that low bar.  Anyone that still lives ...
Mint LP provides Stevenson Alignment
Chakster "i have no idea why people recommend that plastic Mint without PS ruler"There is a misunderstanding here.  The Mint LP is made of glass not plastic and if used correctly it is capable of greater accuracy in my experience than the Feicke...
Mint LP provides Stevenson Alignment
Somehow lost in the ensuing discussion is a point made in my original post, which is that I recently bought a Feickert protractor.  It is from the use of it that my observations concerning Baerwald, Lofgren and Stevenson are derived.  I did compar...
Mint LP provides Stevenson Alignment
@downunder:"What tonearm do you use Bill?      or perhaps he has changed his views, or more like he has a more detailed database to do what generally sounds better."I have several turntables, three of which have Mint LP protractors:  A VPI HW1...
Mint LP provides Stevenson Alignment
"If you don’t specify a specific alignment when ordering Yip will provide you with designer intended alignment for your specific tonearm." Not according to Yip. I asked and he told me his protractors are supplied using the Stevenson alignment mode...
mcintosh MT10 turntable good or not.
The MT10 was tested favorably a couple of years ago in the British HiFi World magazine where it was compared with a modified Technics SL1200GAE with SME IV tonearm and external power supply.  About the same price, different, but no winner.  There ...
VPI 40th Anniversary Table After Warranty Support Question
In 1986 I bought an HW-19 Turntable and an HW-17 record cleaning machine.  The turntable has needed only routine lube for the bearing and the occasional belt.  The record cleaning machine needed service due to operator error (that would be me usin...
FM vs. HD RADIO.... anybody think FM is better?
I have a recently Modefferi modified McIntosh MR78 and for digital a Sony Z1ES.  Which one sounds better depends entirely on the signal being received for the most part.  Most digital signals are VERY compressed.  Good FM broadcasting is almost ex...
Do 45 rpm 12" LPs really sound better than 33 rpm?
I should disclose first that making a 12" at 45 rpm takes the LP feature away, which I don't care for.  More importantly, all else equal the faster the speed the more noise will be generated.  This can be significant for the stylus tracing the rec...
3D Printed Tonearm
I have a 10" 3D arm on my Prime.  I suggest you go to the VPI website where you can see the product and go to the forums where it is discussed at length.
