Refurbished Bluesound Vault 2
Some of these units may have been returned to the dealer by customers during  the trial period. Then given a clean bill of health for resale.Agree that some Node 2 were returned NIB by dealers in exchange for the newer model.
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
No, don't care for the GTA/GTB's.I ran a single-gain-stage preamp with all brands of NOS 6SN7s and loved them (some more than others). But that design easily revealed microphonics. Using Herbies tube dampers sometimes helped.
A DAC that can make digital sound analog?
@larryi  is spot on with his assessment of Audio Note DACs. They are NOS with no filtering in the digital or analogue stages. And I agree the mastering is the all-important element in creating digital music. Many original CDs which were transferre...
Finding the right tube preamp (input values) for Mccormack DNA
You must take the preamp gain into consideration. In most cases it's not an issue, but CJ preamps have high gain. Find the gain of the actual preamp you're interested in and ask Steve McCormick.
Ever tossed a record aside as poorly engineered and produced only to think otherwise later
What do you mean by "limp wristed?" That sounds like an offensive expression.
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
@steakster brings up a notion that I didn't think about; auditioning some preamps. We've only been referring to 6SN7's and the Sachs preamp, but there's a world of tube preamps out there. Many fine 12AU7/ ECC82 based designs in which equivalents c...
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
@grey9hound , I'm using Tung-Sol JAN-6SN7GT, black oval plates/ black glass (1940s). It took Andy a while to find these tubes. He's such a great dealer and asset; I put in an order for the T-S's and he called me when he procured them. They're one ...
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
@gryphongryph , I listen to classical almost exclusively, I hear what you're saying. Good soundstaging and 3D imaging are important to me with orchestral music. And I want enough detail to hear the instruments in a realistic way. I spoke to Don Sa...
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
Those Granite Audio are excellent amps. When using NOS 6SN7's, only buy from a dealer who tests for noise and microphony.Military grade 6SN7s are tested to a higher level, but even these can become microphonic. Some versions are built with extra su...
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
6SN7's have such a wonderful timbre and overtones. Since you are familiar with Mullard but like detail, Brimar is the better tube. It's a UK tube similar to Mullard, but with more detail and extension. The Sachs preamp uses a cathode follower so th...
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
That’s a generalization that large tubes sound better than small; it depends on the implementation of the component. IMO, the 7308 which is a substitute for the 6922 sounds much better in terms of dynamics and realism. And most preamps use the 12A...

That Pangea is overkill for you; its typically used on very large high current amps. Try and sell it.PS Audio PerfectWave AC-5... very good for a power ampTry the Morrow map2, it has very good user reviews.Cullen...http://www.cullencable.com/cross...
A DAC that can make digital sound analog?
Never heard of the SW1X DAC, but their website makes for some interesting reading. Their design approach reminds me of Audio Note, both based in the UK and believe R2R NOS is the way to achieve analogue-like sound. SW1X even offers Signature (upgr...

So, you don't have a mega-amp which needs a heavy gauge power cable. Your Pangea is 7-awg I believe. 10 or 12awg would be adequate for your amps as long as they are  low resistance. 14 gauge is typically used on source components since they have a...
Mass Loading ... My Recent Experience
Sounds good @rlb61 . On some components I use TerraStone Roller Bearings which drain vibration into a maple platform.I also use DH Cones on a couple components with a maple platform.I agree with your findings regarding mass loading. Imaging can be...
