Periphery Record Rings I've had some correspondence with Larry, the seller of the rings in the link I posted originally. He does address the possibility of the ring being non-concentric as follows (I hope he doesn't mind my posting this information, but it does help exp...
need warm and LAID BACK hi-rez/focused power cord "My only complaint is some bite on midrange forward instruments like some horns and piano on SOME recordings. Do you feel the Kaplans would be a good choice to tame this effect?"All I can tell you is what the Kaplan cords did for my system. As oth...
need warm and LAID BACK hi-rez/focused power cord Sorry, I might have read your post too quickly, but what I heard was that you want to keep the resolution you have and add a tad bit more warmth to the sound. Not necessarily a softening of the top end as much as a cleansing of the top end and per...

Periphery Record Rings Here's some thoughts from another source that I have queried on this topic:"I think the only way to go is with a matched fit with 3 point engagement on the outside diameter of the platter so you don't give up concentricity and minimize resonance t...
Periphery Record Rings That's my initial thought Spence. The primary issue with my rig is nasty subsonic effects. I think a periphery ring would help with that more than a heavier platter, as much as it would be a PITA (not the bread).I'm mostly wondering about the qual...

Fremer/SSM w/Rim Drive If you have an SDS or other speed controller available to you, you should try using a string drive. Get some non-stretch Rayon or silk thread, adjust the speed, and you will not need to look at the rim drive option again.Bob
VPI Scout "tweaks" Why not upgrade the 10x5 to a Karat with that $1000? I think you'd get more bang for the buck that way.Bob
"Already Free" - Derek Trucks Band Although this new DT album is pretty good, both my wife and I prefer tha last one "Songlines" overall. I think it's the variety on that one that just hits a chord.Plus his playing on the new one seems a bit aimless, even though the songs themselve...
Sandbox-style isolation Here's my set uf sandboxes, built into the stand (nothing like mass for a TT):http://cgim.audiogon.com/i/vs/i/f/1155818474.jpgI still found that putting squash balls under the TT, even though it is sitting on a sandbox, to be very beneficial.http:...
Do amps sound better when left on for 30 minutes ? Most every piece of equipment benefits from some warm up time. Generally, turning them on is OK, but it might take a little longer to warm up than if it was pumping some music through it, even if that music is playing at low volume. |
