Audiophiles are not alone
+1 to the Frogman's post.  Having been involved as a trustee (and audience member) for years with that orchestra he's referring to, and having also been intimately involved with the financing and leasing of one of these instruments for a prominent...
Floorstanding towers
Well, since you don't tell us the size of your room, I'll say that if you have a huge listening space there is a pair of Dunlavy SC-Vs for sale on this site in your price range that are among the world's finest, though their cosmetic condition is ...
Glare on Choral recordings, classical vocals
Well, I sing in a couple of choruses and have done so all my life.  In certain acoustics, the treble voices in our choirs can sometimes be overpowering and create the glare you're talking about in real life, even though the voices are excellent. I...
Lamm LL2 Deluxe....
Price looks pretty fair to me, especially since folks seem to be asking about a thousand more for a 2.1 version.  I'd jump at it if I needed a preamp--I think it would handily beat anything out there at that price..  The dual volume controls are a...
8K for a one-time listen?
Maybe you could rent a decent hall, get a manufacturer or two to loan you a big system, invite 100 audiophiles over at $100 a head and let them all listen, then compare to the vinyl, CD and hi-rez download you also get for your $8K.  You might eve...

How large is your room, and do you have any rigid placement requirements (like they can't be away from a wall)?  That will have a big impact on the type of speaker you should get, and may allow members to give you more informed suggestions.  Also,...
Would a Lamm ll2.1 deluxe slay a Parasound JC2?
Not sure which ARC preamps are hybrids anymore, but I did own an SP-11 Mk 2 (hybrid) and was using a Vendetta phono stage with it (one of the best around, and a reason I respect John Curl's designs so much).  I decided to replace the SP--11 with a...
Would a Lamm ll2.1 deluxe slay a Parasound JC2?
No.  I've heard it and other solid state preamps in various systems, and while I appreciate the solid state strengths, there's something about the tubed preamps and amps that keeps drawing me in to the music and lets me not be bothered by a slight...
Would a Lamm ll2.1 deluxe slay a Parasound JC2?
It will be different, let's just say that.  The bass will probably be a little less taught than through the JC2, and the highs might seem a little less extended, but the midrange on the Lamm is just right by my ears, and the music just flowed beau...
Need help ...
Agree with Mward.  It's excellent equipment.  How does it sound to you?  If you like it, try not to obsess over whether it could be better and just enjoy it.
VINTAGE ****** MARANTZ AMP MODEL # 1250 SN#PO30065
Is it me, or have there recently been a large number of people trying to sell their equipment through the forums as opposed to the classifieds?
Hum on phono head amp through speakers.
Might be a grounding issue.  Have you grounded the head amp with your phono stage?  Also, are the two units plugged into the same outlet?
VAC 30/70...pick your pre?
While I'm usually in agreement with Jmcgrogan2, and do agree that keeping a system in balance is a good idea, IMHO the TNT sure ain't an entry-level turntable--it may be older, but it has held up nicely over the years.  It will not be out of place...
VAC 30/70...pick your pre?
I see you're also considering getting an integrated in another thread.  I think a VAC 160i would be a good choice, if you don't want to get the 30/70s.  If you go the separates route, I agree that the VAC Renaissance preamps are a very good match,...
Infinity IRS Betas
My guess is that, like me, the original owners had a lot of room for their system when they were younger (and those speakers need a lot of room); now that they're downsizing and moving out of their homes into smaller living spaces the speakers are...
