The Jadis JA200Mk2 review---or slam!
We'll have to agree to disagree on the strapping, then.  The owner of the company set up the amps, and Stereophile was told that the setting was 4-8 ohms.  This mistake appears to have been made by Jadis or their distributor, not the reviewer.
MBL 111F or 101E ????
I wonder if you'd be better off with the stand-mounted 121s rather than the larger mbls.  That way, perhaps, you could more easily move them out into the room for serious listening and get the full benefit of their omni-directional presentation, t...
The Jadis JA200Mk2 review---or slam!
And I repeat, the manufacturer/distributor set the amps at 1 ohm, not the reviewer, and it was certainly not incumbent on him to open up the amps and reset the amps at a different setting.  That's easy enough when you have separate taps outside th...
The Jadis JA200Mk2 review---or slam!
FWIW, after re-reading the review, it looks to me like the only person who knew the amps were strapped for one ohm was John Atkinson, and only after he opened up the amplifier--he notes that the distributor had stated they were in the 4-8 ohm sett...
MBL 111F or 101E ????
I'm sorry, but feel I have to raise it again--does anyone here who has heard the mbls (and I have heard them sound wonderful placed out in a room) think that they will work essentially placed in the corners of a room as the OP states (1/2 meter fr...
The Jadis JA200Mk2 review---or slam!
I think all the review should be read to say is that the JA 200s are not an ideal match for the Wilson Alexias, at least in the reviewer's opinion  It's a shame that the reviewer didn't have other speakers on hand to see if the problems were with ...
MBL 111F or 101E ????
I question whether you'll lose a lot of the omni magic that you get from mbl speakers if you're going to have them as close to the sidewalls.and rear wall as you indicte.  Whenever I have heard them, they have had a lot of space around them, and t...
Backward Albums?
Actually, they look like pretty good diffusors.  Room treatments for the bookworm audiophile, on the cheap too!
Audio Research LS7 - Still a good performer?
The LS-7 was, in my opinion, ARC's most "tubey-sounding" preamp after the LS-5.  Subsequent models have been more neutral, though I believe the SP-16 might be similarly balanced tonally,   It is not as good, IMHO, as the earlier LS-5 (very highly ...
Vacuum tube suppliers
While I'm sure the recommendations here are all fine, I can't say enough good things about Andy at Vintage Tube Services.  If you are going for vintage tubes, he is meticulous about testing them and a fountain of knowledge when it comes to getting...
Vandersteen's new affordable mono blocks at the CES 18
Judging from what I heard of the 7HPA, I think that these should be excellent amplifiers.  But I would suggest you title your post "more" affordable--the price hasn't been set and even if they are half or even a quarter of the price of the 7HPAs t...
Conrad Johnson vs. Audio Research - Sonic Comparison Impressions
The older CJ equipment would fall into the warmer/lusher-sounding equipment.  I once heard a pair of CS 3.5s like yours driven by a CJ Premier amplifier (I think it was the Premier 3 or 4, a big stereo unit) that made the Thiels sound absolutely g...
Best Audio Writing of 2017?
Anything by Art Dudley.  I find many of his views have become mine after so many years of listening.  And he is a very fine writer, the main reason (along with Mr. Fremer) that I continue to subscribe to Stereophile.
Channel Imbalance at low volumes
I agree that it's likely the volume pot.  I don't know if it's been mentioned, but many volume pots, even in expensive gear (such as my Shindo preamp), just do not adjust volume for both channels equally at the lowest volume settings.  They do fin...
Radio personalities
Ghosthouse mentioned Dan Ingram, who was probably my favorite NY DJ.  He also had a jazz show on FM at the time as well.  I recall him playing the entire 6 minute version of Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone, rather than the three minute AM version...
