Reubent, Adrian is very talented. I was introduced to his music in the early 80's through King Crimson and have been listening ever since. Saw him with King Crimson (at a small venue in Chicago) one time. That was a phenomenal show. My favorite (on vinyl) from him is "Desire Caught by the Tail"
Thurston Moore / Rock n Roll Consciousness
|
@slaw - Glad to hear you enjoyed the S&R set. I love them live......
@boxer12 - I'm a big fan of Adrian Belew, especially his older stuff. I've seen him may times and always enjoyed it. |
Awesome Slaw
Adrian Belew / Lone Rhino |
Wilco, The Whole Love, and Uncle Tupelo, Still Feel Gone. What a family tree! |
The Son Volt/Shovels& Rope was excellent! S&R seem to just ooze talent. If I didn’t know better or had my eyes closed, I’d swear there were 4 or 5 musicians on stage instead of two. I got a replacement Son Volt "Notes of Blue" lp and "Ballymena" 10" / 45rpm lp while there. |
Bob Dylan - "The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan" |
World Party - "Private Revolution"
|
|
Grateful Dead / Veneta Oregon 1972 Awesome "Dark Star" that goes over 31 minutes |
Low / Drums & Guns This one is going to see heavy rotation, excellent. |
|
Leftover Salmon / Something Higher |
In support of @slaw 's concert tonight........
Shovels and Rope - "Little Seeds"
|
Hey Slaw, FLOTUS is the title of the Lambchop album. It is there latest. Just back from the record store. Bought six new ones... 2 Lows, 2 Lanagans, 1 Leftover Salmon, & 1 Psychoanalysis. |
Bob Dylan "30th Anniversary Celebration" 3lp/original pressing.
Halleluiah!
|
My admission: I don’t have an original "On The Border" to compare this version to.
(The original textured cover is nice.)
Hopefully this will change soon. I eyed an original at my last record show outing but did not pull the trigger.
Next record show...June 24th..
I do feel comfortable in saying, there are noticeable aspects in the soundstage that aren’t normally there on the majority of lps I have heard. Good...Bad..? Can’t say yet.
This is the fun part for me..
|
@reubent ,
Thanks, I'm hoping Shovels & Rope will show me why they are the headliner.
Very excited about the show!
|
That Eagles "Live" lp sounded so good, I was motivated to pull out a record show find I never paid much attention to...
Eagles "On The Border" Quadra disc.
I’m setting my hopes low. There’s only one way to go from there, that way.
|
The Eagles lp really sounds good. No bar code. Right before the digital revolution. Worth looking for if you like the band.
( I had forgotten, but Joe makes a statement that he is running for president and wants our vote.)
……………………………………….
@boxer12,
One thing I found interesting regarding Thea Gilmore when I was looking through her discography....she has an lp with Sandy Denny.
|
@slaw - Enjoy the concert tonight! Let me know what you think of Shovels and Rope live. They have been really, really good every time I've seen them. |
Just cleaned my Eagles "Live" / 80's /dbl/lp
I thought it was in rough shape but thankfully it looks really good. "Doolin - Dalton", "Seven Bridges Road"..... need I say more?
The cover looks like a road case.
|
|
I think I'm going to play MJ's "Thriller". |
Peter Gabriel "US" The original EU dbl/lp.
@boxer12,
Is Lambchops's lp really named FLOTUS, or is that a political maneuver?
|
Low? I think I own some Low?
Actually, I do own that exact lp!!
I just returned from a family issue. Drove 75 miles.
|
Thanks Slaw / The Yes album is on my list. Enjoy the concert!
Low / The Great Destroyer Beautiful distortion on this one!
Lambchop / FLOTUS |
Well, my first reaction to the Yes lp is, the dynamics suffer. This is the Rhino re-issue/re-master. The overall, seems clear in that some compression has taken place. Not to the extent that this version is unworthy, just that it is noticeable. I'm not an expert on this band.. just a fan who has heard much better.
Check out my reports of The Yes Album. Now that's what I call a damn good sounding record in either version.
|
@boxer12,
That comparison will come after I have a chance to listen in my system. I don't mean to put you off, but she is so 'new' that I don't want to make any comparison until I have a chance to experience her music in my system first.
Thanks for your interest!
BTW, I’m going to see Shovels & Rope/ Son Volt tomorrow! I have side one of Yes "Tales of...." in my cleaner right now.
|
Kingsbury Manx Will Let You Down
Slaw, Who would you compare Thea to? |
Johnny Cash "American III: Solitary Man" !!!
|
@intone,
I like Andrew Bird...admittedly I’ve not kept up since "Noble Beast".
Welcome, BTW!
|
Monsters of Folk up next. ….then...
Jack White "Blunderbuss"
|
|
@reubent Thanks for the reply! I’ll check the new album out. I liked his last album, Pure Comedy. |
Re-listening to some lps I liked recently...
The New Basement Tapes "Lost on the River" ……………………………………….
I heard a (new to me) artist today that I was so taken by, I bought everything on vinyl I could find, which wasn't but 2 (lps). Much more available on cd.
Thea Gilmore....check her out!
|
@intone - I really like the new Father John Misty album. It's my first LP from this artist and I think it is really good. I'll dig further into his other releases...... |
Reubent: How’s that new Father John Mister album? |
Are You Serious? - Andrew Bird (Blue Limited Edition Pressing)
|
|
Blake Mills "Heigh Ho" (a reference recording) |
|
The Scorpions "Love @ First Sting" |
Seals & Croft "Diamond Girl", owned it since ’73, still sounds great!
……………………………….
@boxer12,
I love Jason Molina, I think I own most of his vinyl.
When I get around to listening to the Yes, I’ll report back.
………………………………….
@reubent,
I'd be interested in your impressions of the latest Father John Misty. I was not as enthusiastic with his last lp which is why I passed on this latest.
|
|
Father John Misty - "God's Favorite Customer"
|
|
Zappa / Ship arriving too late to save a drowning witch |
Slaw, I did not know Randy was Jimi's mentor, very interesting. Let us know how the sound quality is on the Yes album. Is it a new pressing?
Listening to "Songs OHIA" Axxess & Ace. Jason Molina was another great relatively unknown musician.
|
@boxer12,
"Black Star"
You need to listen to this one...late at night (dude).
(Randy California was Jimi’s mentor.)
|
When I’m listening to music.. I’m happy.
When I hear my doorbell ring....I’m out of my element.
Well, unless, upon looking on my porch, I see a package that resembles a lp. Now.. I’m getting excited!
I just received the Emmylou Harris "Wrecking Ball" deluxe edition//3 LP version.
Also...…….
Yes, "Tales of Topographic Oceans" WOW!
Now...Who do you love.....whooooooo……..
|
Slaw, You're Welcome. Yes Randy California was in the band Spirit. Not sure if he was the leader or not...
mapman, I will check that out. Although Genesis had it's moments after Peter left the band (Trick of the tail comes to mind), I wasn't much of a fan of their music anymore. I did see them live during their Duke tour & they were really good live though. / Thanks
Right now I'm listening to Bowie's last album (star) & really enjoying it. It's pretty obvious he knew the end was near by the lyrics. Bummer. |
"Randy California = Jimi Hendrix...……. |
@boxer12,
Thank you so much for that info!
I'm familiar with Jay Ferguson. I own a 45 rpm pressing of "Thunder Island"
Spirit = Randy California????
|
I'm listening to the remake of "Ripples" from the Steve Hackett "Genesis Revisited" release from a couple years back. Its a must have for any classic Genesis affectionado.
