Genesis / Lamb Lies Down On Broodway IMO this is one of the best rock albums ever pressed. I first heard it in my early teens & have loved it since.
Slaw, The Fahey album you listened to last night is one of my favorites from him. "Pure Pleasure" released another from him that is also awesome. It's called "The yellow princess". Jay Ferguson from the band "Spirit" joins him on one of the songs. |
Up next... a few John Hiatt lps..yaw’ll !!!
gonna add in some … Hall & Oats "H 2 O"... a gifted lp that is perfect!
Shelby Lynne "I Can’t Imagine"
Men @ Work "Business as Usual"
…………..
|
A little Johnny Cash from the American Recordings Box. |
BTW, "Machina" is excellent! The music is really good and the sq is great! Why I did not pay attention years ago, I do not know. |
Tony Joe White "The Shine" |
@reubent,
If you haven't heard it yet?....you should check out her Live lp..if only for The Twins interpretation of "Sounds of Silence" Very Nice!
Next is "Eat A Peach" freshly cleaned...just as a peach should be.
Then..."Machina" Smashing Pumpkins. I believe this was the lp right after Siamese or Mellon Collie? This will be my first time listening since I bought it...... although I’ve owned it since it’s inception. Memories?????
The Pumpkins were my favorite band of the 90’s. Saw them right after D’arcy was replaced by the bassist from Hole. They did a great cover of VanHalen’s "Everybody Wants Some". Jimmy Chamberlin had two drum kits.
|
@slaw - I really like it. It's her first LP that I've bought. I have always been vaguely familiar with her work, especially the more popular stuff. I was surprised at the diversity of styles of songs on the record. If you squint your ears just a bit, the first song sounds quite a bit like an EmmyLou Harris song IMHO.
Enjoy..... |
@reubent
What do you think? I loved it! I own most of her stuff. This latest was by far, her best, IMO. If you don't own her other stuff, it may be hard to make any judgement.
|
Brandi Carlile - "by the way. I forgive you"
|
Lynyrd Skynyrd "Second Helping" AP/45rpm |
|
Tom Petty "You're Gonna Get It!" from the box set....again
sounds sooooooo good.
|
Yes sir!
The New Basement Tapes "Lost on the River"
John Fahey "America" 4 Men With Beards
|
Here is one you know slaw, & it's great! Neil Young / Zuma |
@boxer12,
You seem to always post records I'm not familiar with. You are a step or two ahead of me for sure.
Happy Listening!
|
Next: Tom Petty "Hypnotic Eye", the Bernie G. cut lp on 2 slabs of vinyl. |
@reubent
I had recommended (privately) "Revelation Road" to someone a few weeks ago.
Right now, my pink label Capricorn, Allman Brothers "Live @ Fillmore East".
I think I’m gonna finish listening to The Clash "Sandinista!" original EU pressing I started the other week.
|
Looks like great stuff over the past several days! ELO was my band back in the day; still love listening to Face the Music.... tonight I’m spinning the Gerry Mulligan Sextet Emarcy recordings box from Mosaic— great ”beginning of summer” jazz!
|
Diga Rhythm Band (Mickey Hart is the leader)
I'm digging this one tonight! |
Late lunch listening.........
Electric Light Orchestra - "Ole' ELO"
|
|
|
|
Shelby Lynne - "Revelation Road" |
Cheap Trick - Live "At Budokan"
|
David Byrne / The Catherine Wheel |
While cleaning records at lunchtime today, I pulled an LP out of the Way Back bin and took a spin. Here it is......
The Edgar Winter Group - "They Only Come Out at Night"
This is a hand-me-down from my sister who bought it new when it came out in 1972. It's been through many, many house parties, moves, musty basements and has been generally mis-handled and neglected. Regardless, after 30 rotations in the Spin-Clean, it sounds OK, with some pops, clicks and background noise. Still I enjoyed it immensely, if for nothing else, the shear nostalgia.......
I thought "Frankenstein" was da bomb back in the day. And I still enjoy it......
|
|
I was at the record store today as well & bought a few used ones. Starting out with Mick Fleetwood / The visitor. I had Elvis Costello's "Trust" in my hand but the overall cost was getting to high so I put it back. Next time... |
Went to the LRS today and pickup up the following:
Brandi Carlise - "by the way, I forgive you" (new) Father John Misty - "God's Favorite Customer" (brand new, released yesterday) Electric Light Orchestra - "Ole' ELO" (used) Cheap Trick - "At Budokan" (used promo) Shelby Lynne - "Revelation Road" (used) Willie Nelson - "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (used) Elvis Costello - "Trust" (used) The Who - "It's Hard" (used)
Starting the night with the Brandi Carlise.

@slaw - OK, early Christmas present it is..... |
|
Allman Brothers "Can't Take it With You"
Yalzza………!
|
The above was/is a very early Classic Records release on 150gr.
Proud to own IT!
|
Cracker "The Golden Age"
WOWzerrezzs…………….
|
Bob Seger - I Knew You When |
@reubent.
I know this admission was painful. But, honesty trumps everything, IMO.
You’ve heard of "night and day" comparisons? Well, this is one of them.
Have an early Christmas dude! Wait for the 25% @ SSD.
(you recently posted that you own the Counting Crows LP/45rpm/ August & Everything After. A $50 + lp
$50 for (one) lp. With the TP box, you get multiple lps, that are over and above the originals in terms of SQ.
You’ll thank me later.
Cheers!
|
@slaw - Sad to say, but I do not own a single Tom Petty record. I like TP a lot, just never got on the bandwagon. Where should I start if I don't want to spend $200 for the box set? Or should I just put the box set on my Christmas list? |
"You're Gonna Get It!"
Wowzzerezsss!
|
The first lp from the TP box....
Fantastic!!!
No need to compare it to my original.....at all. This one, absolutely blows away my original pressing.
|
Men at Work "Business as Usual" !!! |
@ reubent,
Thank you! I did not mean to put you or a couple others into that group.
"losers" maybe somewhat harsh but, at the very least, there’s a lack of vision.
Peace, brother.
………………………………………………………………………..
Joan as Police Woman "The Deep Field"
|
|
@slaw - That other thread is for losers..... ;~)
|
Grateful Dead Dick’s Picks Vol 6 sides E & F.
Currently cleaning the first two lps in the early Tom Petty box set. I waited to get mine, hopefully it won't suffer from being the 2nd press. I got it for a hair under $200, which makes me happy.
|
Zebra "S/T" If you don’t have this lp, you need to get it. If you do have this lp, you need to play it. It sounds fantastic!
|
(I've NEVER seen/read) ANYONE from the other thread, posting here at all...or if at all, with any passion. |
My prized... Elton John "Madman Across the Water" DCC/lp |
The Prince lp from the last RSD.
Me thinks, I'll just post here from now on instead of the other thread...
No love there at all!
|
Hey @Reubent,
Ever noticed how, when anyone mentions NY, there come several others later???? He's such a cross-generationally great artist!
I have in my lap, a NY Official Release Series Discs 8.5-12. (Yet to be cleaned and listened to). Always a good thing to have great music that waits you.!
Been here for a while. I bought it at 55% off several months ago. Just like the N Y & Bluenote Café" Excellent!
|
Neil Young - "After the Gold Rush" - Neil Young Archives Official Release Series
