Need to recap my Classe Audio DR-8 Amps - need suggestions
Caps that need reformed are garbage and should be replaced. If you've got DC on the outputs and you're cooking woofers there's a good chance that's the result of a cap leaking. My vote is recap before you're stuck replacing more woofers or transis...
Focal Electra BE series
Everything I've ever read suggests that the 1000 series is a more analytical speaker. As statements of fact, no, the Kanta doesn't use the same tweeter as the Electra. It's a completely different unit. The W cone drivers in the Electra don't have t...
Watts are watts?
Impedance curves don't make a huge difference unless you're using some kind of transformer coupled amp with stupidly high output impedance. Decent direct coupled solid state amps have high damping factors that are pretty much immune to imedance an...

Kalali,I don't know what kind of drivers you listen to, but you'd need a 7" tweeter if you don't want it's passband effected by the baffle. The mid-range would have to absolutely massive as well.
Do these pioneers look genuine?
There's a white van joke in here somewhere, but I can't find it.
Focal Electra BE series
I'm not sure I'd call the 1000Be2 series a step up. The tweeter is definitely inferior to that of the Kanta. I'm hard pressed to say that flax is inferior to a W cone given that it does have some superior characteristics. Beyond that, the Kanta ha...

Typically when someone describes a baffle the presumption is that it's a flat slab. Nobody presumes that they're wildly sculpted things like the IRS V or the LS50. The problem with giant flat baffles is that the do have an edge somewhere, and that...

MG, Nelson Pass seemed to think I did a really good job on it and complimented me on being brave enough to build something like that on my first attempt. Everybody that's heard the thing wants something that sounds that good because it really is a...
Talk but not walk?
Glupson,I don't have a problem with taking risks in principle. I actually prefer risk and volatility to none. I prefer it in my women, my cars, my bikes, and my job. But I don't prescribe it for others because it takes judgement, experience, and s...

MG, The F5 is a juiced up Pass design. To be specific, it's a fully complementary. push-pull, 2 stage, FET based amplifier running in full class A idling at 1.42 amp at 32V. The heatsinks are at about 56c idling. It's what class A amps do, especia...

I'm definitely calling that a baffle too. Without a baffle dipole speakers suffer from all kinds of destructive interference as the wave fronts wrap around the drivers.
Tube Pre-Amp, vs Solid State with Tone Controls/EQ to take edge off the top end?
Get thick 10g speaker cables. Thicker cables are more inductive to high frequencies and in my experience do take the edge off the top end a little bit.

I'm no electrical engineer, but do I really need to point out the obvious? Power line transformers? Where you're at on the grid? The wiring in your house? All the products Mike sells on his website? And now you all want to talk about everything wo...
Talk but not walk?
@inna I think the lack of forthcoming information has been a big frustration in this thread.Mike,I'm looking at the page right now. How exactly are you making 20g wire, which only has a maximum rating of 11 amps as hookup wire, carry 20 amp? You'r...
Talk but not walk?
Mike, you sell cables that could easily burn a house down. I addressed that matter with moderation a short while ago including links to your page. Looking down this thread it looks like you're abusive to others in a thinly veiled passive-aggressiv...
