preamp inverts polarity
I'd suggest throwing out the cables that are specifically designed to color the sound. We're talking AC signals here. Both conductors see positive and negative. Anything that doesn't conduct both equally is failing.
Comb Filtering - Quick way to Tell
I don't think so.
Comb Filtering - Quick way to Tell
I don't think the lobing you see in the 8kHz to 20kHz region has anything to do with the size of the woofers or baffle. The DeVore Orangutan 0/96 is another speaker with a lively cabinet and a very wide baffle, but you don't see any odd diagonal c...
B&W 805S vs Focal 1007 BE
Big Focal fan here. I'm going to cast my lot with the B&W here, too, for your tastes.
Comb Filtering - Quick way to Tell
I looked over the measurements of the Enzo XL. They clearly reflect the comb filtering of an array of 1 inch tweeters placed 2 inches on center, which looks to be about right based on the photograph of them. As I mentioned in my post elsewhere, 1 ...
What makes a speaker sound great at low volume?
Plenty of speakers with low 90's sensitivity sound dreamy at low volume. And they don't force you to use the absolute quietest electronics available.
Golden ear triton 1 vs tekton double impact speakers
@erik_squires You've never heard a Golden Ear speaker with an air-motion transformer? They all use air-motion transformers. GE builds their own and the front of the unit is a very beefy metal aperatures grill. In measuring the Triton Reference, Jo...
Golden ear triton 1 vs tekton double impact speakers
@erik_squires I've read all Meyer Sound's white papers on their line arrays and heard many line arrays from JBL, Nexo, and Meyer Sound. I'm familiar with the principles by which they operate. Virtually all the makers of HiFi line arrays use some s...
Golden ear triton 1 vs tekton double impact speakers
@mofojo Uh, no... Nobody needs to debate the quality of Focal because they're a company that is widely respected as one of the finest speaker makers on the planet. And they run their international business like real professional. Nobody buying Foc...
Golden ear triton 1 vs tekton double impact speakers
There's no reason to believe stuffing a heap of tweeters in a box is good engineering. Given the paucity of such products and the general lack of success for those that do exist, it would seem the virtue is lacking.
Talk but not walk?
Why's there this sideways expectation that folks aren't legit audiophiles unless they indulge in all the snake oil?
Golden ear triton 1 vs tekton double impact speakers
@fredgarvin At least Sandy can be bothered to provide grills. GE is a vastly more professional operation than Tekton, not to mention younger. GE isn't just integrating whatever parts they can get their hands on.
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
@georgehifi Come on! You can't really believe that! Nobody building an amp with a 25kR input impedance has any intention of it being fed with a 1kR+ source! If your amp has that low an impedance it's certainly got BJT inputs and those take current...
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
@georgehifi Oh... I didn’t realize the typical amp input impedance was between 100kR and 250kR. I didn’t realize input transistors have no gate or base capacitance either. Ten to one is really more of a minimum, not the ideal. And since a passive ...
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age?
@georgehifi I believe facts. Facts like Nelson Pass explaining the superiority of a buffer to a passive. Facts like measured performance. Facts like subjective performance. Facts like the rarity of passives.
