How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
@georgehifi Yeah... Because I've got all kinds of money on the line. Like mrdecibel said, the perfect world doesn't exist. Nobody understands why you think 90% of component matches are perfect when they aren't. The technical reasons don't require ...
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age?
@georgehifi Nonsense. Active pre-amps aren't going anywhere. They're an unusual fetish that'll never become mainstream because of their unavoidable failings. 5000 ohm of impedance to the input of 90% of amps is never going to sound as good as 50 o...
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age?
@georgehifi You're over here totally mischaracterizing Pass too? Do I need to quote and cite the article for his active pre-amp that you're cherry picking his words from? And why can't you understand impedance isn't the only factor? Why do you kee...
Talk but not walk?
@stevecham I've been trying to sort that out too. I see an OP started by a very charismatic guy with a mental issue or something. Jf47t talks about the guy like he's a Jim Jones like cult leader and JF is being groomed like a Catholic choir boy. A...

@georgehifi And we'll keep calling you out and correcting you so that nobody confuses you with a credible source of information or honesty.
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
@georgehifi The following is copied directly from passdiy.com, projects section, B1 buffer preamp. AN ACTIVE PRE-AMP! Care to actually cite his published "stance on passive pre-amps"? What you're calling "his stance" is word for word what he wrote...
How to check a speaker is Genuine or Fake
https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/authenticity-of-speakersYep... There it is. We're not talking particularly exceptional speakers here. Nobody is going to put much effort I to trying to build a convincing knock off of these things. It's just ...
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
@georgehifi A quote from an article for an active pre-amp. You're ridiculous.

Well, extrusions that thick are more expensive than aluminum plate of the same thickness, which would be stiffer and less resonant. As long as it looks good though....
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
@georgehifi No joke! I'm pretty sure that's what I said, isn't it? I'm pointing out the foolishness in the assertion that any economy of scale has anything to do with some superfluous heatsinks, especially when their amps have sinks made from cust...
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
What exactly do economies of scale have to do with heatsinks? This is just one more of those companies that bolt their circuits into superfluously over-wrought chassis and passes the expense on to you?
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
@tweak1 I'm looking at the "Hattor Audio Ultimate "The Big" Passive Preamp with XLR" and it's got heatsinks. Just saying....
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
@tweak1 I read your other post and looked at the manufacturer's site. It's pretty obvious that it's being buffered. Given the heatsinks, the constant input impedance, and the fact it takes an hour+ to warm up, it's certainly got active devices in ...

I always scratch my head at "passives" with big heatsinks.
Surprised
I've never given little monitors with subs serious consideration for a variety of reasons. First, it a more technically complicated approach. Because of that, it's much more difficult to get the best sound. Second, you're going to lay out more mon...
