3 Hour Warm-up?
My PrimaLuna Dialogue 2 (which is possibly not fully broken in yet, as I am not sure I have 200 hours on it) tends to sound best once it has been on for at least 90 minutes or so.
Proac or Sonus Faber Monitor Speakers
Agree with just about all of the above posts. It will depend on your sonic tastes. The Sonus Fabers do have a beautiful sound, but it is a much smaller soundstage and a more "laid back" presentation, as the reviewers like to say. I prefer the ProA...
How Much Surface Noise is Too Much?
Elizabeth, I agree that the most annoying ones are the clean looking ones with constant noise, even after cleaning. Is there any way one can tell by looking at the grooves in sunlight whether this will be the case before buying?
Store LPs outside of Jacket??
My experience on ebay has been generally very positive. This summer alone I found three different records I had been looking for in vain for years. I have found several sellers who grade accurately and who take great care in the shipping of the LP...
Great musical CDP?
In my opinion, you don't need to spend anywhere near that much - get yourself a new or used Rega Saturn or Apollo. They are by far the best sounding CD players that I heard when I was auditioning several fairly recently, including the ones I heard...
Need proper sequence for cleaning records
I agree with the posters recommending the Audio Intelligent fluids - their three step system works great!
Opinions on budget TT
I would add another vote for the Rega tables, which are far better than the Project for the money. The Exact 2 cartridge is a great match. I have not heard the Clearaudio.
Holographic imaging
I agree with Mapman here - the human ear is a much more sensitive instrument than any machine yet invented. No audio equipment I have ever heard or probably will ever hear can recreate the sound of a live performance.
Is music quality moving away from the "audiophile"
Recording quality has been in a very steady decline for a very long time now. But speaking as a performing classical musician, most of us absolutely detest compression and over-amplification and fake digital reverb and all the other favorite trick...
A Perennial Debate For Which I Seek Help
I agree that we are not very far apart at all, that's what I was trying to say in the first place. I also agree that everyone needs to decide for themselves what is the most important to them in their own systems. For me, I go back and forth betwe...
Please recommend hearing protection
I am a professional orchestral musician, and I can tell you that it has been proven that orchestral musicians will lose at least 20% of their hearing over the course of their careers on average. It is a very unfortunate side effect of the job, and...
Your vote: Most Useless Audio Adjective
Didn't read through this whole thread, but my least favorite term in the audiophile world is "neutral." Speaking as a professional musician, I certainly wouldn't ever want that term applied to a performance, either of live or recorded music. Yes, ...
A Perennial Debate For Which I Seek Help
Douglas_schroeder - what I mean is that there are good and bad cables at all price points, and that I do not believe that wire will make any more difference in a $2000 system than it does in a $100,000 system, or vice versa. You seem to be saying ...
A Perennial Debate For Which I Seek Help
I thought I had made it clear that I was not saying that wire was unimportant. I certainly agree that some designs sound better than others, and I did indeed audition some different cables and interconnects, both at my dealer's and again at home. ...
A Perennial Debate For Which I Seek Help
In general, I would agree with Baroque Lover and Markphd on this one. I think the price of most wire out there is ridiculous, compared to the effect on the system. I would also say that in many cases, an "improvement" heard when switching out wire...
