Okay......best single box reference CD player
DcStep,Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to do any comparative listening to determine whether the Puccini did anything extra special for certain. Also, I am highly skeptical that anything new or earth shattering is still happening at the h...
Okay......best single box reference CD player
Kops,I heard the $20000 dcs Puccini at a dealer recently. It sounded as good as anything I've heard probably, but can you explain to me what exactly the dcs Puccini does better than say good players in the <$5000 range that justifies the cost? ...
Okay......best single box reference CD player
I'm not convinced that there is a best.I suspect very high end CD players may just reassemble the bits in unique ways that helps differentiate the resulting sound and justify the price, but I'm not sure that any of these variations are necessarily...
If I like Dynaudio monitors, I would LOVE?????
Yes, I am a big Dynaudio and monitor fan as well. I own Contour 1.3mkIIs that helped displace larger Maggies and B&W P6 floor standers prior. I've found Dynaudios in general do what they are designed to do extremely well and have a very natura...
B&W 800d's or MAGICO V3's?
Only a 2-3 year warranty for Magicos is certainly not what you would expect, especially given the hype and cost. If I were seriously considering buying a pair, that alone would make me think twice.
Vinyl vs. top-notch digital
I'm thinking electronic music that is mostly digital or electronic at the source (and perhaps lacking in higher order harmonics?) works better in general on CD than vinyl (perhaps also with SS versus tube amplification) but "acoustic" sources with...
Small room, "budget priced" speaker advice, please
Good advise from Tvad.
Vinyl vs. top-notch digital
The best vinyl played on a decent system properly set up beats the best CD digital in regards to sound quality, without doubt. Also, the artwork and liner notes on album covers contribute to a more enjoyable overall package than the CD equivalent ...
Stereophile claims about Magico
Dhaan,I think you stated the reason why people need so much affirmation. Its because it IS hard to know for sure exactly what something will sound like once you take it home, and, perhaps even more importantly, it is costly to make poorly informed...
B&W 800d's or MAGICO V3's?
Koegz,Its registering with me that you are looking for a sound with more "muscle", like perhaps only the very large, most expensive full range speakers, like the Grand Utopias, can generally provide. If you can afford it and have the space for the...
Stereophile claims about Magico
Its not fair to single out audio mags either. Most media outlets are marketing, not service driven. The goal is to get people to buy more new things. Audio is no different. Just face this reality and think before you believe anything someone tells...
B&W 800d's or MAGICO V3's?
Didn't get a chance to hear JM lab Grand Utopia, though they are on my list t hear someday. Heard Profile line Focals and like them very much. From what I've read, I'd expect the GU's must be outstanding.
B&W 800d's or MAGICO V3's?
Shadorne has a good point. Perhaps you have stated it already, but what is it that is missing that will knock you out of your chair? Spending more money on speaks is not necessarily the answer. You already have outstanding speaks, Any move is most...
Internet radio stations that sound really good
Audiophile alert:Today I discovered that 101.ru has a few dozen stations available in 128K WMA format, all of which really sound quite phenomenal. I'm currently listening to 101.ru "Spivakov Classic(al)" ...very nice indeed! I highly recommend tha...
B&W 800d's or MAGICO V3's?
Koegz,Before dropping $20000+ on new speaks, maybe consider auditioning a pair of Ohm 5 series 3 speakers. You can get an extended in-home trial period to break them in and make sure they fit the bill. I'd say they can do pretty much what the Magi...
