Different arm for VPI Scoutmaster
I am with Stringreen, the difference is not that great; the 9" arm is very good. The Scoutmaster with standard arm is an excellent table; there was a gap of several months between the time I sold my demo and when I got the Classic in stock so I ne...
VPI Scout II questions
Since I am a Dynavector dealer as well as a VPI dealer I will recuse myself on the 10.5. Two cartridges I like a lot that I am not a dealer for are the AT 33 EV and the Denon 304. Both Low Output MCs but you could get either and a Bob's Devices SU...
Audiolab, Rowland integrated - nothing in between?

VPI Scout II questions
After Harry proclaimed the Classic the best table he ever made there is no incentive for dealers to carry them, not enough price differential.
Negative Feedback a deal killer?
Some of the best measuring and worst sounding amps ever made had massive amounts of negative feedback. The Japanese amps of the 70s are the best examples of this, .0001 distortion. It is not that distortion makes an amp sound good, it is what you ...
Different arm for VPI Scoutmaster
I should know this but while I had the 9" arm on my Scout and Scoutmaster and the 10.5" on my Classic there was a gap of several months between having them set up. Even though I am a dealer the exchange cost is not on the price sheet; I feel the 1...
do record cleaning fluids soften the treble?
All very well but I just listened to "Music From the Time of the Crusades" on Argo; I gave up half way through one side before I cleaned it, really noisy. After cleaning it was much better and sounded fine to me. It use to be a general recommendat...
do record cleaning fluids soften the treble?
I have used VPI and Nitty Gritty on and off for years but haven't noticed this. Different after cleaning but no pattern I have noticed. Maybe I missed it.
component cones/spikes vs. rubber
My Star Sound rack is mounted on large cones, uses steel supports filled with very small steel bearings and the components rest on other steel cones. The whole thing is designed to couple strongly to the floor and transfer vibrations from the comp...
Different arm for VPI Scoutmaster
Not the SME as it would require cutting the base. Something like the Jelco 250 or 750 would probably be relatively easy, as would some other arms. From my experiences with a Scoutmaster [I am a VPI dealer] the original arm is a good match; unless ...
Best way to categorize your Vinyl collection
I finally [after 5 moves had totally mixed them] got mine in order. Piano music in one section, symphonies in another, organ, rock, folk. jazz etc. I can find things now but I don't know if anyone else could. These are my LPs, my CDs are still in ...
component cones/spikes vs. rubber
Do you want to couple or isolate? They will both work but give different results. I use a mixture of cones and roller bearings myself but preferences here will be system and taste dependent.
Tube rolling for Musical Fidelity Nuvista M3?
I put some new ones in I ordered from England. I was doing some other things to it at the time so too much time elapsed to be sure but I thought it might have sounded a little better; I don't think it makes the big difference that all tube units s...
Origins of the word Amarra
This sounds like total nonsense! A language that could be converted into an algorithm and used as a universal translation device? Translating Chinese into English by means of a third language? Name a language that IS NOT synthetic and highly struc...
Luxman M6000
I had the similar M4000, it should work with either tube or SS preamps, I used it with Lux CL35 [tube] and C1000 [SS]. If it has level controls on front panel like the 4000 then any line level input can be used.
