| Can speaker cables be too thick? I presently own two sets of speaker cables. I could install each of them for comparison, and a listener would have to be tin-eared not to discern a clear difference between them. There must be some difference in their capacitance and impedance spec... | |
| Can speaker cables be too thick? Capacitance, impedance and resistance all affect a cable's sound. Thickness and length of the cable, as well as the construction and materials in the cable will alter capacitance, impedance and resistance. So, the answer to your question is that th... | |
| What new amp for my Merlins I would like to have an SS amp that is competitive with the sound I'm getting with the CAT, and for that matter the wonderful Ars Sonum. An alternative soundscape that is just as convicing, compelling and enjoyable.Pubul57 (System | Threads | Answ... | |
| Preamp Deal of the Century OK, Stiltskin. Best of luck with your tube sales.BTW, I live in Southern California, and I'm familiar with North American tube prices. The highest tube prices in North America are undoubtedly found at TubeWorld, and from one Audiogon tube seller i... | |
| Trying to maximize bass response ...... I once flattened the response curve in my room using a Behringer DEQ2496. Boy, did the sound suck. Even the Behringer instruction manual warned of this reaction!I was happy to remove the EQ and enjoy my out-of-balance but musical frequency curve. | |
| Preamp Deal of the Century Wow. Those are some pricey tubes.$500 for a Philips Miniwatt GZ-34? Are you serious, Stiltskin, or was your post a joke?FWIW, I recently purchased a pair of new Siemens CCA grey plates for $250 direct from a German seller. They sell for upwards of... | |

| Discounts vs. Agon listings There are many factors that affect the concept of value. Only you can decide what constitutes a discount that's "good enough". | |

| Cartridge for Thorens TD-160 I have a Shure V15 Type III with original box I'd be willing to part with. They were often used with Thorens tables. It will require a new stylus. The $100 JICO replacement stylus is supposed to be the best for this cartridge. Other replacement st... | |
| Hum- help needed The hum existed after your rewire, and only after you disconnected the DVI video cable did the hum go away?Seems to me this indicates the DVI cable was the problem, not the AC lines...despite the rewire. Many report hum caused by video cables in a... | |
| Hum- help needed 10-07-07: PlatoIf you changed the "bad humming" amp to a different circuit and it was quiet then I would suspect that the outlet you are using for your stereo may not be properly grounded or may be wired improperly. Precisely. That's why I asked i... |
