MM to MC back to MM
Jsman, What is your phono stage? Unless you've got a phono stage that can bring out the best in a low-ish output cart like the Dynavector VPI model, I'd recommend staying with an MM (for now). The AT440ML is a pretty darn good cart. Why not just s...
How to get 100 accurate azimuth?
I eventually abandoned the mirror method in favor of one that seems to work a little better - play a record at night and shine a bright flashlight at the record where the stylus makes contact. A black vinyl record will reflect the stylus and canti...
Vintage vinyl or new reissues?
The Sundazed "Times They Are A'Changin'" (Mono) by Bob Dylan is absolutely stellar. I don't have an original release to compare to it, but it's all I could want. If the original vinyl issue was better, it couldn't have been by much.Still, I think ...
skipping problem - Marantz TT-15S1
Is the tonearm contacting another object at the end of the record? I know, it sounds like a dumb question, but I've made all the dumb mistakes one can make (I think), and that was one of them. The back of the tonearm was contacting the wall of the...
Comparing complete Beethoven Symphonies on SACD
The Klieber 5th and 7th rules, but the SACD is very average in terms of sound quality. The LSO Live series is probably the best out there. The Pentatone series is right up there, too, and they are sufficiently different readings so you will want b...

BACH Cello Suites - CD only
I don't think you'll find better than the Starker on Mercury Living Presence. It's a justly revered recording.Cheers.P.S. The SACD sounds magnificent.

Interconnect for a VPI Scout?
This might be the most critical interconnect in your system. The reason - the signal generated by your cartridge is REALLY small (read millivolts), as opposed to an approximate 2 Volt signal coming from a CD player. Do not skimp on this particular...

Bellari VP-129
I've heard good things about the Bellari, but I would personally find it hard to spend $100 or so for some really great NOS 12AX7 and then pop it in a $200 phono amp. But that's just me.
Anyone tried EH6550 tubes in a SF Power 2 amp?
I got my cryoset KT88EH matched octet today. I won't be able to try them out until mid-January, because I'll be out of town. I've heard a lot a good things about the Electro-Harmonix tubes, so I'm looking forward to the swap out.
Best Genesis Album - your opinions please.
Fyi the bulk of the Genesis catalog will be released on SACD in 2007 (see www.sa-cd.net) Merry Christmas, everybody!Tom
Cartrige for Scout w/jw9 on my system?
A Sumiko Pearl or a Clearaudio Aurum Classic would be good (budget) choices with the Bellari. Wait until you upgrade the Bellari before going to a moving coil cartridge (even a high-output mc).
