Blues recommendations anyone?
Let me know how you like "His Best" (Chess) by Sonny Boy. It is one of my all-time favorite records, and I would recommend it as essential for anyone discovering the blues.
Choice Rega P5 or VPI Scout?
Aw, come on, Alex! You can't just say "Neither"! If you're gonna shoot down his choices, isn't it only fair to offer him some other choices? I've heard Rega, Music Hall, and VPI turntables. They are all excellent, but VPI is in another league, IMH...
Blues recommendations anyone?
Well, if you're looking not only for names, but a method in which to cover this territory, I would start with Robert Johnson. There is a 2-CD set available of his complete recordings. Blues as we know it today can be said to have started with him....
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
I have a very good SACD player (Sony XA9000ES), and my analog rig is the VPI Scoutmaster with the JMW9 Signature arm and Dynavector DV20-XH cart. Phono stage is the EAR 834P (MM only).I love SACD and the vast improvement it brings over most redboo...

marantz sa-11 or cary 306 sacd
Sony has not made an SACD player that did redbook well. Even my XA9000ES, which supposedly upsamples the redbook data to DSD, sounds better through a DAC. I would guess that you'll be happier with the redbook play with either the Marantz or the Ca...
marantz sa-11 or cary 306 sacd
my 2 cents... I heard the SA-11 and I actually prefered the older SA-14. I thought the SA-11 sounded too laid back for me. I've not heard the Cary, but people are saying mostly great things about it. Question: What do you think of the XA777ES? If ...
Are your kids into audio?
My daughter, age 17, God bless her heart, is into music. I bought her a nice system for her room. A Music Hall MMF-5 and a Rotel Integrated, along with some PSB bookshelf speakers. She has an iPod, too, but she knows the difference. We go shopping...
condo owners, how do you appease the neighbors?
Thanks again, everybody. I've read the responses and I have some questions to put out there:1) Do speakers on spikes really help?2) What db level would most of you honestly consider to be the threshold of nuisance behavior in a multi-dwelling? I f...
Night Of the Johnstown Flood
Well, the song is "Highway Patrolman" from the album "Nebraska", but that's not what he's looking for, I think. I'm sure there really is a song called "Night of the Johnstown Flood", but I don't know it...
Do Audiophiles really like music?
I think that very few would come across this hobby in the first place, to say nothing of then choosing to indulge in it, if they didn't love music. Maybe some of us are eventually swallowed by the beast, when we reach the point that we don't hear ...
condo owners, how do you appease the neighbors?
Thanks, guys. I really got spoiled in my former apartment. Everybody played the music loud, whenever we wanted. There was an understanding, of sorts. You don't complain and I won't complain. I think renters are far less uptight. (They tend to be y...
RACHMANINOFF PIANO CONCERTO 2
What about Van Cliburn on RCA Living Stereo SACD?
Matching Rotel RMB-1095 to a pre-amp
I used to own an RMB-1095 and used a McCormack MAP-1 as a front end with good results.
Who mods the EAR 834P
I've contacted both Steve and Mitch. Thanks for your input, everybody. Tom
