Cable isolators ???
I was doubtful about vibration having an effect on electronics, much less wires. Rather than argue about it, I put a high gain circuit (phono preamp) into a box along with a small speaker system and a SPL meter. Ran the SPL up to about 110dB, and ...
Does the balanced output of the Sony SCD-1 invert
If it does invert, and you don't want it to do so, just reverse the (+) and (-) signal connections at the XLR output connectors. If you do it at the speakers you will invert all the other sources.
Good Grief. Another Tchaikovsky already.
Sugarbrie...Agree about Hillary Hahn. Quite apart from the less than spectacular performance I find the Multichannel mix to be aweful. With a center channel to work with they cut poor Hillary in half and put the pieces in Left and Right, with almo...

Check out Bell's web site...joshuabell.com. Of particular interest is the lengthy writeup about the history of the Strad he plays.
Clever Little Clock - high-end audio insanity?
Albertporter...."This is no laughing matter, one more man, one less woman, and an audiophile somewhere is all alone on Saturday night". Perhaps not so big a problem. It may just be a stereotype, but the word on the street is that audiophiles are p...
Clever Little Clock - high-end audio insanity?
.As a senior engineer, with a lowly BME degree, I at some times had scientists (Physics PHD) working for me. I think that there are clear differences between Engineers and Scientists. There is a saying that "There comes a time in every project to s...

Pabelson... "The problem isn't what scientists don't know. It's what audiophiles don't know about science".Well said! That boils down thousands of words into the essence of truth.

Mootsdude...You picked a bad example with fire walking. Science has provided the explanation. White ash on the coals is a good insulator if you keep walking fast.
Searching for power amps with low damping factor.
Why not just put a resistor in series with the speaker. Not much power would be "wasted" for a big reduction of damping factor.

Elberoth2...4000 is what they say.
Clever Little Clock - high-end audio insanity?
Audioari1,,,There is nothing wrong with the measurements on the $200 JVC receiver. What is wrong is the assumption that its low distortion (for example) is what people want. The SET amp has loads of distortion, but some people like the sound of di...

How can I learn how to fix equipment
Most kits today are designed to give you an easy-to-build quality product. Heathkits were primarily designed to teach you how the thing worked, and most of them were not of the highest level of performance. But that's how I learned about circuits,...
Vinyl lovers--in case you haven't tried this yet
Zaikesman...Use the SS amp. Feed it the Left and Right stereo signals from the preamp. Connect a speaker from one red amp terminal to the other one. This "bridges the amp. You don't need any special bridging switch on the amp. What you will hear i...
