DIY speaker cable made from cat 5 type cable
Everyone's talking about the cable, but for essentially the same cost you may be able to make something better than the CAT5 braid. Yes, it did sound better than stock 12 uage speaker wire, but it also had a bit of a smearing effect. This was not ...
Building your own high end turntable stand?
I just made a similar pair of sand box stands, following Mrmb's design concepts. Mine is only 3 boxes high, with 50lbs of sand in each. I used an Ikea birch table top cut into 3" pieces for the legs. And birch cutting boards for the plinth's. They...
What is your favorite Chick Corea CD/Album?
Wow, nobody mentioned "My Spanish Heart" yet. A double album with some very good sound and a wide variety of music to captivate. Perhaps that's why, he coveres a few differen styles while still keeping that Latin/Spanish feel to it.Enjoy,Bob
High mass turntable owners -- What Stand?
Dave,I recently built a sandbox type of rack for all my components. Picture this, if you can. 2 stands side by side. Each stand has 3 levels and is about 36" high. Each level is a 4" high sandbox containing about 50lbs of sand. These are made of M...
best phono-stage for 1200$ max.
You may want to consider the Hagerman also, for a lot less than $1200. In kit form (if you're handy) or prebuilt. Very good, as long as you don't also need a step-up transformer for a low output MC. Then you'll need to figure in that extra cost al...
VPI HW19 Mk IV platter upgrade, speed variations?
Just another idea that might have something to do with your speed stability issue. I had a problem a while back where my belt wasn't riding a straight line on the platter. It kept wobbling up and down as it spun.Long story short ... I had a talc b...
Good cartridge for Audioquest PT6 arm ???
At the $300 point there's always the Grado Platinum (woody). However there's ths issue of hum with some turntables. What TT are you using the arm on?Enjoy,Bob
Check out www.yourmusic.com
Yes, definitely a cheaper way to go, as long as you find something you want. to own. However, you may be buying "seconds". Here's why I think so:I ordered Bill Frisell's "East/West" CD. Sounds great, but the East labeled disk contains the Wests so...
Schroeder model 2 or Morch DP6?
I would strongly suggest you contact Mehran at Sorasound (sorasound@sbcglobal.net). He may be able to help you in many different ways, whichever arm you decide to go with. He also sells ZYX cartridges, which should sound great with any of the 3 th...
Most musical S.S. Amp under 2k used ?
I think that musicality is a synergy between components. That being said, amps that have good PRAT tend to be more musical to my ears than ones that are overly bloomy or overly etched. The McCormack's ( I have a near rev A DNA .5) definitely have ...
Mk-IV Platter on a HW-19 JR Table?
It should fit fine, the only difference would be the height of the platter. You may need to raise your armboard if there's not enough adjustment in your arm heaight - but it should be OK all 'round.Brrgrr: I have a Corian plinth for my custom VPI,...
Reference Transports: An overall perspective
Don't forget the Empirical Audio modded Sony DVP7700. Yes, it's a modified DVD player, but the jitter signature is one of the lowest you will see, and after mods it is a true worldbeater. Built like a tank with a true copper chassis too.Enjoy,Bob
Whats under your VPI Scout / Scoutmaster?
Maple butcher block here too, with DIY rollerblocks under that (for isolation). I also have an EAR Isodamp sheet under the motor.Enjoy,Bob

New Cartridge for Morch DP-6, 12", Red Dot
Why not look at a Dynavector. I believe they all work to spec with the red dot arms.Moerch also has a spec sheet on their site listing many cartridges and the appropriate arem "dot" for them. You could look through that and see if anything catches...
