Turning off tube preamp first sends solid state amp into protection?
To avoid the "pop" I had become familiar with, I have started to turn on the solid state power amp well before I turn on my tube preamp. Is it the right sequence? Really don't know but I don't get that pop anymore.
Wadia Transport Service
I have wanted a Wadia WT-2000 ever since I saw one more than 20 years ago. I see them for sale pretty frequently. Your post reminds me why I haven't jumped on one. Everything wears out eventually.
Arizona Audiofile Club
Audiophiles in Arizona...really? I'll plan to stop by. Only a two hour window. Now I'm seeing it. I assume that's a Phoenix address.
Spam threads gone wild...
They’re gone now, but early this morning someone posted several threads that were obviously spam. I clicked on one, offering a free full-length movie, "Bohemian Rhapsody." It had already been shut down by the moderator, as had many of the others. ...
Any Mark Knopfler fans out there?
What’s not to like? I’m a big fan. I agree, "All the Road Running" is probably my favorite album. I do like his work with Dire Straits, as well! Like Jackson Browne, you won't go wrong buying any of his albums.
What is the most memorable concert that you had attended so far?
Reading the above posts, I was reminded of one memorable concert in 1973. It was Elton John at the Hollywood Bowl. Elton was introduced by Linda Lovelace (yes, that Linda Lovelace). When they opened the deck of his grand piano, doves flew out. Ver...
Nakamichi Cassette Decks
I can’t disagree, and they’re still expensive!
What is the most memorable concert that you had attended so far?
REM concerts have always been my favorite ones, but my most “memorable” was the concert by Bruce Springsteen, just Bruce and a guitar (no backup band). I could easily see why they called him the Boss.
Nakamichi Cassette Decks
I’m not familiar with the HK CD491. The thing I would remind you about is that there are still Nakamichi techs that can tune up an old deck to be just like new. I’m not sure that’s true for the HK CD491 (Harmon Kardon, I assume) deck you mentioned...
JBL - almost nothing for sale, why?
When we moved in the mid-80’s, I had owned a pair of JBL Olympus enclosures with an 001 system (130A 15” woofer, 175 DLH mid/high)in walnut, with the wood fretwork grille. My wife insisted that I sell them as they seemed big for the living room. A...
Classe Audio DR6
What was the mistake? Selling it, or buying it in the first place.
Nakamichi CR3A Cassette Deck
You're lucky! Nakamichi is a still very big name in cassette decks. Your CR3A is too far down in the line to be a big draw. If you don't plan to keep the deck and cassettes, I suggest you sell them together. I had more than 2000 cassettes, and thr...
JBL - almost nothing for sale, why?
Here are my suggestions: Be patient, check eBay or Craigslist. I love the old, large JBLs (L100, L200, L300, Olympus, S7, S8, Paragon, etc). With so many audiophiles aging and retiring, they do show up occasionally. If they haven't been taken care...
Nakamichi Cassette Decks
My wife insisted that I sell my 2000 cassettes (including box sets) for $2300 just prior to moving. I should add that it included a mint ZX-9. I kept a couple of hundred to use with my RX-505. As l expected, I regret selling them. I still have dre...
Insider or Outsider? To be or not to be,...?
I'm still not seeing many yellow tags next to members names. I do believe that it won't be long before this forum will only be available to "insiders." At that time, I'll be forced to decide. In the meantime, I don't see upside other than access t...
