Your first component that was "special"
I bought one of the first pairs of Infinity Servo Statiks from Woodland Stereo in the 1970’s. The crossover began to act up so I took it in to Walt Lewsadder, the owner of Woodland, who assured me that the folks at Infinity (Arnie Nudell) would re...
Ok All you Schiit Eitr's
Another juvenile product name from Schiit, as usual.
Audeze LCD-3 Over Ear Headphones
In general, as you move up the line you will likely get better sound at a higher price. I realize that sounds basic but it is usually true. Much would depend on your budget. You seem to have settled on the model in the middle of the range so, I’m ...
Did Natalie Merchant support her cd "Leave your sleep" with a tour?
I have been a big fan of Natalie Merchant since her days with 10,000 Maniacs. I’ve seen her live four times...always a great show. I don’t recall a tour for the “Leave Your Sleep” album but it’s OK if I’m wrong. I’ve been too busy the last few yea...
New Sonus Faber Electa Amator 3...anybody heard these yet?
I’m not surprised. I have owned the original SF Electa Amators since the early 90’s and they still sound great. They feature the famous Dynaudio Esotar tweeter. The second version added a rear-firing woofer, and now there are apparently three in t...
Dylan
Looking for Dylan tickets online, I learned that “There are no concert dates scheduled in your area.” Oh well. Looks like most of the dates next year are in Europe. I can’t get upset. For my money, I hope Bob (yes, just Bob) stays forever young an...
Stuff you bought on Audiogon, but never have seen another?
When I bought the MFA (Moore, Frankland and Associates) Magus, we lived in the SF Bay Area. It gave me comfort to know that Scott Frankland (the “F” in MFA) was still working (doing repairs, etc) in the San Jose area. I don’t know if that is still...
Dylan
“A living legend” is the best description of Bob Dylan. I’m a huge fan! I have seen him twice in Berkeley...once at the Berkeley Community Theatre, and at once The Greek. Always gives you your money’s worth. You have to listen closely to the words...
Stuff you bought on Audiogon, but never have seen another?
For years, I wanted an MFA preamp. I finally saw a mint Magus B for sale here on Audiogon. I bought it immediately. I check from time to time but rarely see anything from MFA. It still works and sounds very good.
Arizona Audiofile Club
I couldn’t make it either. I guess I’ll have to wait until next year. In the meantime, I’ll check out the Arizona Audiophile Club.
Silver cables
Nice advertisement (with testimonial), and without all those annoying fees. Look for Kimber Kable KCAG interconnects. Buy them used!
NAD x Classé
If it were me, I’d buy the Classe but I'm sure you'll be hearing from the NAD fans.
Stereophile Magazine question.
Really...$10 for a year, and you’re asking for input? Check with your Financial Advisor. IMO, it’s worth the money. I have been a subscriber for years!
Your Forever Pieces? What and Why?
Stax tube-driven headphones (Lambda Signature and 009 phones); Sonus Faber Electa Amator speakers, and Nakamichi cassette deck (RX-505). All owned (except Stax 009s) since the early 90's.
Toploading CD transports recommendations
I have a Consonance Droplet 5.0 CD player. I paid $900 for it used. I never see them for sale. It is top loading, and continues to operate as designed. I also have an Oppo 105D, and it also works fine.
