Good Day robinbarbour-
I am a big fan of CJ gear as well. Did you check out the MET-1 ? This is CJ's attempt at surround sound- 5.1 to be exact. Yes, I have read excellent comments on Cary Cinema. Personally, I am a "stereo" guy, 2-channel only. Once one steps outside of this and goes into a more complicated configuration, 5.1 or 7.1, much thought/planning must be sorted out. I have auditioned both good and poor HT set-ups over the years. In a 5-channel system, it all starts with the room or listening space. |
Good to read- oblgny
which Thiel speakers do you own? What other gear is in your system (including cabling)? Happy Listening! |
Nice of you to give a shout-out to your local dealer/retailer "Audio Den" oblgny. Consider yourself fortunate to have a local dealer/retailer. |
Thanks! for sharing- michaeljbrown.
I have been thinking about a Krell amp for my Thiel speakers. Which one? |
TY- Dan for the connection on Thiel legacy manager- Rob Gillum.
Regarding your question about surround speakers- I have only heard the 2-channel Thiel loudspeakers (2.4, 2.4SE, 2.7 and 3.7).
None of those dealers/retailers had any in/on nor sat Thiel speakers. All auditions were in a 2-channel listening room or showroom. Hopefully, one of the other guys here can be of help to you. Happy Listening! |
Does the CS 3.5 and CS 3.6 use the same drivers? Crossover?
If so, it would be of interest to own back up drivers/crossovers, especially, if they are in cherry condition! Keep me posted on your B.A.T. and local dealer/retailer. |
|
oblgny-
did you get back your B.A.T. ? |
oblgny-
are you re-building your system? Going to all B.A.T. ? |
I would like to hear one of those Pass Labs integrated amps. We all know the PL separates are outstanding! |
At used or demo price- they are a steal. There is much useful data in this thread- which model interests you? |
Good to read- oblgny.
There is another member here that uses a B.A.T. and is asking about the synergy between the 2 brands? Are you using a CD/SACD player in your system? |
Thank You- michaeljbrown.
|
|
Happy Listening! unsound.
|
Nice! saffron-
this is the excellent aspect about cables/cords. There will always be some passage in the recording that will shine w/ the right cable! |
Hope you find a buyer maplegrovemusic.
|
oblgny-
Many Thanks! for the update. Are you familiar w/ the newer B.A.T. products? Specifically, the VK-300, VK-300x SE or VK-3000 SE?
|
Thanks! for the update -Dan.
keep me posted on this project and the continued integration of Thiel into your H/T set-up. Happy Listening! |
good to read- robin,
the CS 2.7 is a very fine loudspeaker. What other gear, including cables/cords, is in your system? |
Have a fun Thiel week- guys! |
Thanks! for sharing the update oblgny. Happy Listening! |
Regarding cabling, I would not use a silver cable/cord, as it would be too bright for most tastes. |
|
|
Thanks! for sharing- Michael & Robin Happy Listening! |
Odd, indeed-oblgyn
So long as the company stays true to us Legacy Speakers owners, that is all that matters IMO. |
Nice! oblgny and tomic601
I have the Thiel outriggers for my speakers. I have read about Sound Anchors products used in lieu of outriggers, though.
A cool project for sure- keep me posted on your tweaks. 1st day of Summer- play the wonderful Jazz standard "Summertime".
|
Kubala Sousna cabling is a sonic match for Thiel speakers. |
Can I work for you- oblgny? |
Thanks! for sharing- michaeljbrown
Bryston power amps are a sonic match w/ Thiel speakers. Over your course, which cabling (most important), did you use?
Happy Listening! |
My pleasure- Guys.
I would like a demo on that Bryston integrated amp- michaeljbrown. Can you tell me more about your audition? I concur that Transparent cabling is outstanding. I have never read about Sanders, though?
|
|
Very nice! I am still considering a B.A.T. integrated amp on my Thiel speakers. There are so many excellent amps in the marketplace, I do not want to make a $ mistake? |
oblgny-
how are you liking the B.A.T. and Primare combo? About 10 years ago, I demo'ed the then new Primare I22 integrated amp w/ matching cd player on Vienna Acoustics speakers. Not bad at all.
Fast forward to 2016, I believe the model #'s are up to I32 and CD32 combo. The cd player has received much positive Audio press. The Primare blu-ray spinner is supposed to be excellent as well. Sanyo makes the laser assembly/drive transport. |
Thank You- michaeljbrown
that really says a lot, as the 2.7, requires more current to drive than my 2.4s. Should have been model B-135.
Happy Listening! |
Guys-
have any of you owned NAIM gear with your Thiel loudspeakers? Thoughts? Impressions?
|
Anyone? Hope you guys are having a fun Thiel week. |
As we ramp-up for another Thiel week- Happy Listening! |
Thank You- frozentundra
at the present time, I only have the speakers, as I am in the process of building my system. I have an idea of where I want to go with it. There are a few more pieces of gear that I want to demo prior to any purchase. Yes, they are beautiful! |
It would be interesting to hear how a Thiel SmartSub fits into your query. I am a big proponent of REL subwoofer. Happy Listening!
|
oblgny-
you have an interesting speaker, interesting design. I wonder how/why Mr Thiel would build and sell a speaker that required some kind of EQ ?
Was he competing w/ Infinity? Mark Levinson Cello? |
Keep me posted -oblgny
Happy Listening! |
oblgny-
do not feel bad- this is part of the fun of our hobby. You have had a few, different power amps? It would be interesting to pair the Pass Labs w/ a B.A.T. pre-amp. |
Sounds like a cool concept- I guess this is one of many reasons why the CS 2.4/ 2.4 SE models incorporated a passive radiator to accentuate the 8" driver. I have not heard any of these older models by Thiel- only the most current ones. |
IME, most higher end subs are sealed designs- unsound. |
Well it certainly works! stevecham. The radiator really adds to the overall sonic presentation of the sound. I like it. |
oblgny-
I,too, am interested in Pass Labs amps. I do not know which way I will go-separates vs integrated ? |
oblgny-
Much Thanks! for the suggestion. Reno HiFi does has a stellar reputation for First Watt & Pass Labs gear. I have heard the Pass Labs separates, I want to demo the various integrated amps for a comparison.
On the flipside of this particular coin, I am interested in the B.A.T integrated as well. I do not have a Pass Labs nor B.A.T. dealer/retailer here in the deep South. Wish I did... |
Laughing... I search both A'gon & eBay everyday, so I do not miss an opportunity of a lifetime!
Thanks for mentioning the Primare I-32. I want to demo the cd player -CD32. It is good to read that something was amiss in your system. Interesting that you like the Primare power amp? |
