If you had to choose: tube amp or tube pre-amp?
The amp has to work with the speakers. Period. So get whatever amp does that best. If you like the sound of a tight and tuneful bass, then SS would probably control that cone better. If you like it a little looser, then tubes will probably fir the...
I wrote Robert Majewski about his recording . . .
Yes, a link to where I can hear this and obtain a copy would be great.
I wrote Robert Majewski about his recording . . .
Majewski was my mothers maiden name. Wonder if we are related (although I understand it is a fairly common name in Poland).Hey, does that make me a mensch too?
mark knophler
Knopfler has been recording and selling the same old stuff for the last 10 years, ever since he left Dire Straits. It has just been more and more of the same. No, I haven't heard this new one but I am not inclined to spend the $ to find out either...
Review: ayre cx-7e mp CD Player
Overall I really haven't had too many problems, but I have had some. When it does make that "grunting" sound and refuses to find the CD's directory, a wipe and polish with a clean cloth usually resolves the issue. I have had to rip and burn a few ...

Best Electrostatic loudspeaker?
I second the Apogees. I've moved up from a set of Calipers to Duetta Signatures. Yes, they need the right amp to shine, but boy oh boy, nothing else quite like them.Yes, you are taking a bit of a risk buying a pair since they are usually 20-25 yea...
new Triode Wire Labs rave review at StereoTimes
Because in direct comparison with many other cables in many different systems it is a clear winner time and time again (regardless of the physics or engineering process behind them).
How much for Apogee Duettas?
In really good condition, meaning no buzzing and cabinets looking pristene? $2000-$4000, depending. $1100 would probebly buy you one that needed work done to bring it back to sounding amazing again, like replacing some ribbons. If there were update...

I need ribbons for Apogees, wheres Graz
BTW - just for the edification of some, Graz has his shop undergoing some modifications and updates. He has run into a bit of a lag while he waits for his machines to receive the upgraded parts and get them installed. You may be in luck if he's go...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul - been seeing this HUGE thread on this forum for quite some time, but I cannot say I have been following it (sorry). However, now I have a reason to join in and ask you for a recommendation. My daughter wants a turntable for Christmas. I found...
So Many Apogees for sale, and so few takers
All planers seem to be finicky suckers when it comes to setup. I think it is because their design inherently integrates the room, rather than trying to diffuse and or eliminate it with sound treatments and such with monitors and other cone designs...
how make your speker faster
I agree with Larry. There are many variables. You could try replacing the stuffing with Black Hole 5, which sometimes will tighten things up. Maybe adding a .1 uF teflon bypass cap to the tweeter crossover caps. Maybe it's your amp that is sluggish...
