will different lengths affect sound
I used to have 25' runs of cable to my system. When I was able to move to a 7' run I noticed a nice improvement in the sound (not as rolled off on top and tighter bass). So something on that level of difference I can understand, but not if one is 7...
Album Of The Year 2011
Man, only one? I truly liked each of the following, but for dramatically different reasons:Steve Wilson - Grace for DrowningRobbie Robertson - How to be ClairvoyantTierney Sutton - American Road
VPI Rim Drive vibrations
Is the belt on the rim drive properly seated? I've heard tell on some other threads that this could be the cause of any bumping against the platter. Make sure it is not twisted at all in its groove.
Great Organists in Rock
Tom Coster, of Santana fame, has to be on this list.
Arm Recommendation for Moerch UP4 Owner
Just a suggestion, but do you know anyone who bought a Fozgometer that you can borrow? It's an expensive toy for a one time adjustment, but setting your azimuth correctly may bring back the extra body you feel you are missing. Another suggestion t...
Has LED caught up to Plasma?
Yes, definitely put a power conditioner on whatever TV you buy. The difference and improvement is immediate and obvious. Plug yout TV converter box and DVD player in also while you're at it.
What component is responsible for dynamics ?
High efficiency horns are indeed the easy key to dynamics, but you are right - many cats in the game. I have highly inefficient Apogees and they are the most dynamic speaker I ever owned (I never owned horns though) - paired with the right amp I s...
What component is responsible for dynamics ?
Then there's both macro and micro dynamics to take into account. Brute force macro dynamics are one thing, and you can find that with efficient speakers for the most part. But those micro dynamics are what truly raises a good system to great terri...
What component is responsible for dynamics ?
It's the speaker ...uh, the amp ...uh, the amp and the speaker working together ...us, and the signal strength coming from the source component ...and of course the mastering on the vinyl/CD ...oh yeah, and throw the preamp in there because, you k...
Tweaks such as demagnetizers ionizers for lp's
I picked up a bulk tape eraser on e-bay some time ago just to satisfy my curiosity. Tried it on many vinyl records but could not discern any differences. I do hear an openness when using it on CD's though.
Can the copy sound better than the original?
You would think it would be a quantum light thing, but since the program ripping/burning it is a measuring device it it probably really a particle thing :-)I've always had a similar question on using black vs regular silver Cd's when burning music...
Whom to invite to a Powercord shootout party
Check out Triode Wire Labs. Great cables at a reasonable price - an unlikely combination by most audio standards, but it is true :)
Tidal Speakers owners
... not that I can afford any Tidal speaker ...
Down firing sub tweeks
Just sitting on the carpet in my room, so it doesn't scratch.
Down firing sub tweeks
I do this with my Rel Strata III down firing sub. I flip it over so it is up firing, put a nice thick piece of wood on top of the now upward sitting feet (I use a large 1" thick maple cutting board) and put something heavy on that. I also recommen...
