How important is ext. adj. for cartridge loading
Front panel loading is certainly nice and allows you to adjust on the fly to improve the sound of any given record. Rear panel RCA plugs are a bit less friendly, but still allow an easy enough adjustment. Pulling the top and replacing a resistor s...
What Step-up transformers are best value?
Check out the Hagerman Piccolo, especially if you aren't afraid of using a soldering iron. It is very good stock, but really shines with some very small improvements, like a better cap in one key location and some "boutique" resistors in 2 locatio...
Andreas Vollenweider?
Saw him 2 years ago on a rare US tour. I think that's the problem, he can't fill large places anymore and any tour in the US becomes very costly. If he comes back I would see him in a heartbeat and bring the kids this time. Great show, very enterta...
roger waters taking the wall on the road...yes/no
Yeah, I saw the Coliseum show way back when too. Just picked up some presale tix for this new show. Can't wait to relive the experience (sans the mind altering things that were part of the experience last time).
what was your wedding song?
I wrote our wedding song and had the band learn it beforehand. Yes, it was truly a magical moment for us, but the problem is that we will never hear it again on the radio, or be able to request someone to play it for us.It was called "All I Want i...
Preamp for Magnepan
Maggie's always seem to be paired with AR stuff, but that's when both the pre and the amp are AR. If you're going with a SS amp (especially if it is a Bryston, which can be pretty dry) then I would suggest a pre that adds a more spacious (tubey) p...
If money were no object, what would be in your rig
I think I would still be looking more at the question of how and why does something blend (or not) and work well (or not) with something else. That means a nice fat budget to buy used equipment and flip it back out if I don't like what I'm hearing...
Any higher Dynavectors sounding alike to Karat23r?
You may also want to look at the Transfigurations. The sound is very similar between them and the DV's.I went from a 20X-H to an XX1 to a Temper and am very happy.
Audioprism Antares
There was an ex-Audioprism employee who was offering mods to old Audioprism equipment. I bet if you called Audioprism they could find his website or phone number and maybe he could tell you more.
Audiocap Theta
Call over to Soniccraft. They sell these and can help you with suggestions and where the Theta's work best.
lessloss blackbody
This thread and the impressions posted are truly interesting. I am shocked that some people have bought 3,4,5,6 of them. At a cost of $1000 each this adds up to quite an investment. You would think that that extra cash would make a bigger improvem...
is ayre qb-9 dac better than cx7e mp?
I think the big draw to the DAC is the improved USB interfacing for those who go the computer audio route.
McCormack DNA 500 vs DNA 225 upgraded
I had a DNA .5 Rev A and just picked up a DNA 500 used. The same house sound is present in both of these amps. Obviously the headroom on the 500 is just over the top, giving it better dynamics and more "pop". I also really do not need my subwoofer...
Wynton - The Only Person in Jazz Who Matters?
Can't stand Wynton or his music. He was just catering to the classical crowd over at Lincoln Center, not the true jazz lover (I'll probably catch sh!t from some for saying that).
Tidal Speakers owners
What's the biggest difference sound wise between the Piano Cera and the non-Cera Piano? Price difference also? Thanks
