Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use?
Ayre CX7e-MPI never thought CD could match vinyl. Now I'm questioning whether it is better than vinyl (and my vinyl rig costs 3-4x the price of this CD player)
Setting Sub Crossover Freq
I agree, you have to set the crossover point LOWER than the bottom of your regular speaker. Then adjust the integration using the sub's volume control. Don't forget to check the phase of the sub also.I agree that a sub sounds better out of a corne...
Tidal Contriva Diacera or Aerial 20T V2
Wow - can we please get back on topic now?Anywhere to hear the Tidal's in the NYC area? With all this hype I am anxious to give them a listen.

Ayre CX-7e comparison to Sony SCD-xa5400es
I recently had my CX7e upgraded to the MP. As good as the standard "e" was, the MP upgrade takes this player to a whole different level. I would even go so far as to say (gulp) that it's now a fair match against my vinyl rig. I never thought digit...
TT Weights VPI center clamp
Well, I tried a center weight (I will leave the brand unidentified at this point) and although it dod some things right it definitely did some things wrong too. There was a more organic sound than with the VPI clamp and a general taming of some exc...
Needle Cleaning
LAST stylus cleaner evary 5 or so sides. Sometimes with the soft brush in the bottle, and sometimes with the coarse brush for a good scraping of goo off the stylus.
amp and pre for maggie 3.6
just heard a pair of 3.6's driven by an AR reference amp and preamp. About 100 watts of tube power. Very nice soundstage and ambience with a very beautiful presentation on soft, acoustic, orchestra dns generally simpler music. But they did get con...
which is better ? MC phono stage or MM+step-up ?
I think one of the best pre-preamps out there at a reasonable price is the Hagerman Piccolo. Dead quiet and with a few judicious parts upgrades it is utterly transparent and beautiful to listen to. Now I haven't heard a lot of these but I did comp...

Another vote for the Ayre CX7e-MP.
VPI HW-19 Upgrade question SAMA or SDS?
The only thing to worry about with the thread is the size of the knot. With a thick string it could cause a small thump. Just use a basic over around and through (not a square knot or a bloodknot) with the thinner string. My pully is V shaped. If y...
15,000 LP's - What to do with records?
I think the only way you're going to get anywhere near worth for these is to open an e-bay or Amazon store and begin selling them that way.Find a college kid who is looking for a little extra cash and tell him you'll give him 20% or the profit if ...
Replace VPI TNT rubber belt with nylon thread
You can't do it without a speed controller. The different diameter of the string vs belt will result in a major speed difference. Here's a link to an on-line vendor for inexpensive silk thread in any color you may want. I recommend size or 3.Griffi...
Replace VPI TNT rubber belt with nylon thread
The string shouldn't be overly tight. Just enough to keep the slack off and make the platter spin. too tight and it seems to constrict and over-control the platter. Let the mass of the platter do its thing.
VPI HW-19 Upgrade question SAMA or SDS?
Get an SDS, then you can switch over to a string drive (silk thread) and further improve the PRAT and musicality of the system.
