Clean Power without the drawbacks of Conditioning Filtering. Advice?

Hi-

From reading i see there is a lot of talk on the drawbacks of Conditioning filtering. Dynamics and freq. limitations etc.

I want to ask if there is a power strip+cord that are not filtering. I think i could possibly get away without conditioning.
From searching it looks like there are the cheapo strips that you don't want to use OR Conditioning strips.

Wondering if there is a good reliable strip that does not screw around with the sound and can also deliver to an 800w consumption tube amp.

Thanks!

@dumbeat - the best filtering is no filtering whatsoever, but that does not provide the best "clean power"

A lot of the noise in standard power cables is actually induced noise between the conductors inside the cables themselves.

This is where cable geometry comes into play.

More advanced cable geometries eliminate internal noise resulting in very clean power to the component.

I have tried many experiments and found that...
- Simply braiding the internal conductors of a power cables helps clean up noise.
- One of the best geometries I have built is the Helix Geometry - see
http://image99.net/blog/files/category-002ahelix-power-cable.html

If you are not into DIY, then I would highly recommend power cables from KLE Innovations.

If you have a noisy household supply you need to address those issues up front before getting into cables and geometries. That may involve having suppressors fitted to noisy appliances by a licensed technician

also had a house-wide surge ssuppressor installed that seemed to prove beneficial as well, but that may be wishful thinking.

I have a very good household supply. Other than installing a dedicated line for my audio system I have taken no steps regarding filtration since I have no noise issues from household appliances.

I do use my own DIY distribution box that uses high grade outlets, like the one in this link (at the end)
http://image99.net/blog/files/category-002ayou-need-a-good-power-supply.html.

Hope that helps

I need to get power from the wall to my system's area. So i need a power strip and an extension cord. Im trying to find out what would deliver the wall power with no change/loss to my System's area. Pretty simple really...
Thanks
Furman wiht SMP and LiFT has the most protection and lowest amount of interference.

House wide surge suppressors are a good idea, but they do nothing for noise.
Im not suffering from noise really. Just want to know that my power strip that is supposed to distribute power to my system about 7-8ft. from the wall outlet is not degrading and is as good (or bad) as the wall socket itself.
I have a high quality power strip that I bought some years ago- it was being promoted by Naim at the time (though I don't own any Naim equipment). No power switch or pilot light, IEC receptacle for incoming power so you can use a higher quality power cord if you like. I can go look at the brand- it is currently in use in my vintage system.
Check out "The Cable Company". They have a lot of power distribution products. I use an Acoustic Revive in my system. It's a good one but Furutech, Oyaide, Synergistic Research, etc. also make them. Instead of an extension cord, I'd look for a power cord (on the site as well).
I have two of these: http://www.cullencable.com/111-2/ and they work just fine. With a little bit of sleuthing, you can find other brands that work as well for around the same price.

All the best,
Nonoise
Wiremold is the power strip @whart is talking about no lights or leds or switches.
That's right, Wiremold is the power strip recommended by Naim.
Commercial grade, no filtering or extra circuits, but does use a 6 ft. captive cord. I use one and find it transparent.

Cullen is a highly rated strip for clean transfer from mains.

@dumbeat this is what you might consider to purchase: https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649014151-cablepro_revelation_fb_8_outlet_power_strip_with_all_o...
This unit has noise reduction etc.

https://www.computeraudiophile.com/forums/topic/34636-cablepro-revelation-power-strips-stereophile-r...

I have a CablePro Integrity and it works very well, I highly recommend it. No noise reduction in my unit just direct power. These are hard to come by.

I took a look at mine - a CablePro NoiseTrapper Revelation. This is probably older than the Wiremold one? Not available any more? NoiseTrapping? I thought it was completely featureless. Oh, well.
Works fine.
I use a ’extension’ cord. actually two, I made myself. 34 ft and 42 ft.The wire I used was MilSpec 12gauge silver plated, Teflon insulated 600V in quad twist (so two wires for each plus.minus) wrapped with Teflon tape. Then two solid 2 gauge ground wires between the two quad twist sets. all wrapped in another set of Teflon tape. The whole is about the size of standard Romex. (at 9 gauge equivalent) At the wall, I use a pair of Furutech ’28’ Rhodium plugs into a Furutech GTX NCF Rhoduim Duplex.
At the equipment end, I have them split, one quad goes into a small electrical box on the floor with one duplex, then the wires out to a second box on the floor with twin duplex. This set powers my two conditioners and a few bits like the wall wart for a TT.. The second longer quad goes to the amplifier. where it too is ending in an electrical box with two duplex, one Furutech GTX-D gold, the other Furutech GTX NCF Rhodium So I can plug the amp in either as I please.
So this is just my choice for stuff I used to make my own extension cords. One device you can use to ’clean’ a bit is something like the PS Audio "Noise harvester" (currently a few places are selling them for $50 each if you buy at least two of them, which is a good deal as they list for $100 each) You can plug them into unused outlets around the system. There are others, more expensive, but they also do a better job, unless multiple PS Audio gizmos are used.. So it is a tradeoff.
The boxes I used are just in wall types that look like a box. Made for a duplex or two.You could use common bulk wire from a hardware store, or more fancy wire. Your choice. I used to use common heavy duty Pass Seymour duplex. for years. Only recently went up to the fancy AC duplex.
By far the best solution is the Magnan Audio DIY plug in capacitor bank solution. Soldering skill required. The more of these plug in capacitor banks around the house the better. And the higher the quality caps, wire and plug the better the results. Complete instructions for these DIY plug in noise filters are available over on the David Magnan website.
Geoff, seems no way to find whatever link you say exists for David Magnan. The cable site with his name no longer shows any such DYI. and is no longer owned by him. And Googling his name does no better. So is there a LINK you have, or know of that actually gets one to the place where he shows this device? Or a wayback machine http link to it?

Lizzie, you need to brush up on your Google skills. I found the link in 3 seconds. Of course, I’m a trained professional....

Sadly, my efforts are more like a two year old child's... I poke and hope, then whine because I am not getting immediate comfort. Alas for my computer skills. I have none.
In college we punched cards in the 'most advanced computing' class. It turned me off to computing for life.. sadly.
Now I bask in my geezer-ette golden days, fondly remembering when Telephone books were the high tech solution to finding something you needed.
Wow, that brought back memories. My friend's dad, back when I was in  high school, was an architect and they had this computer that used punch cards and they had to be stacked in the right order or it wouldn't work. Needless to say, I thought I was doing it right and froze the computer. My friend's dad couldn't use it for the rest of the weekend and had to wait until Monday for the tech guy to sort it out.

It made me computer phobic as well. 🤪

All the best,

I would look at High Fidelity Cable conditioners and power distributors line of products.  No filtering or current reduction, 30 day money back trial. I use their MC 6 Hemisphere , it replaced my PSaudio P10 . good luck

Geoffy, really now. Hel-loo! Rpt Hel-loo!! Capacitor banks are not going to filter diddly on an AC branch circuit.

They are required by electrical supply utilities for power factor correction in industrial applications where large motors cause a lag in power factor due to the inductive load. The capacitors in a capacitor bank are sequentially switched in to the circuit to counter-act this by introducing a load with a leading power factor.

The above industrial scenario does not apply to residential electrical delivery systems, as there are no significant loads with apparent power phase angle lagging real power.

Wake up Geoffy and smell then ☕️. There’s no room for your science fiction unless you want to waste money and make things worse. Do yourself a favor and take a night school course in AC Electicity at your local community college. Be informed, not ignorant and jump on the knowledge 🚂 train 🚂! Toot! toot!

Yes, the PS Audio "Noise Harvester" works well for removing noise from the line as Elizabeth mentioned. If anyone is interested in more information PM me.
You might look at the PS Audio P-20 regenerator.  Plenty of power out of it, and seems to be a lot of happy users so far.  I use a pair of P-10's happily now, and will likely switch to the P-20 this winter.  They allow 30 day trials.
I thought the OP didn’t want any filtering or regeneration.
Although, the High Fidelity MC-6, Magnetic Conduction Power Distribution Block looks interesting for $999.
No filters or capacitors.

Dirt cheap.. Plain old small quartz crystals, add a bit of automotive dielectric grease to insulate individual crystals, place in small baggies...(I do 1/4 inch thick, about 2 inch by 1.5 inch packets.)I put some in the AC duplex area and in and on the AC Plugs.Seems to work well as I just bought some PS Audio Noise Harvesters, and they register zero noise on that line. It may be luck and it may be my notions have some merit? I wrote a new thread about the noise harvesters,

I did something similar to what Elizabeth has done ,
I took a Hubble HG outlet strip took out the circuit breaker and rewired
everything internally and externally with 10 gauge wire from Cardas
and use a hospital grade plug .
The complete end solution is the PS Audio Directstream Regenerator.  Comes in multiple sizes depending upon your equipment's current requirements.  Zero compression & near perfect wave form.  Outstanding and YES it is a huge upgrade... not a subtle "I think that sounds better" thing... Huge.
This thread has come a long way from advice for a quality power strip to now recommending $5K to $10K power stations.
I wonder if the OP has tuned-out.

Edit... According to the OP’s other thread, he is looking to power tube monoblocks. I would, however, recommend power conditioning for sources. No idea what his budget is.

CK out the new PS Audio P 15 or P 20.  Super clean AC with very low impedance.  I think there is a trial period.  Highly recommended. If price is a consideration, there are some good deals out there on a P 10.  Also a dedicated 20 amp circuit or two wouldn't hurt.
After 4 different power conditioners, I went with the High Fidelity MC-6 Hemisphere. No filterring, just  clean, clear, detailed & musical music with a very quiet background.
My esteemed colleague Marty DeWulf has a review of the Furutech e-TP80 power strip that I've been remiss publishing. He reviewed the hopped-up version ($2k), but the standard model starts around $800. He said it is superb and does no damage whatsoever to the power that he can discern. (He's fussy about such things too, and has generally stayed away from any kind of conditioning.) I'll publish the review soon.
You can buy excellent power cables and a power strip from Shunyata. The PS-8 or PS-12 are the strips and they have good cables. You can add noise reduction without conditioning if you wish as well.

Rollin
My final suggestion is a better AC duplex to feed the power.I would suggest Furutech, or Oyaide. Others may suggest other AC duplex products. Then a good powercord from said duplex to the amp.
Agree with adding a high quality duplex. But take full advantage of this upgrade by installing a dedicated AC line.

Yup, you got your upgraded outlets, and your upgraded outlet covers. Next stop, the Graphene contact enhancer for all (rpt all) outlets, not only the audio outlets. Where does it ever end? 😳
@lowrider57..... Yep I think this thread lost OP. I don't think he had $10K power re-generators in mind when he ask for a simple solution to gaining an extra 8 ft of extension from his outlet to location of equipment. No filtering, no power conditioning or re-generation - Just "8' of Extension".
As suggested - a Cullen audio grade outlet strip for about $200.00 and another $50.00 in material and 1/2 Hr.  worth of work to build an audio grade ext. cord to make up the additional 4' needed.......Jim
I think the op went and bought the PS Audio P20.
It was the highest priced suggestion. The lowest price suggestion: Right here: Carol wire 12 gauge/3 for about $1.50 a foot from a hardware store. An ordinary in wall duplex tandem box, $4 a Wattgate plug $12 Two Pass & Seymour heavy duty 20 amp duplex, $12, And a brass tandem duplex cover $4
Im reading with interest even though its indeed a whole different topic. But some info here is good and useful.
The 10k power stations are not for me but a fun read nonetheless.
Thanks!
@jhills, this thread was useful to me. I may get the Cullen strip and swap out my Wiremold. The Cullen comes with a high quality PC.

Chang Lightspeed CLS 709!

No current limiting, improves detail, more 3D, clearer sound quality, dead quiet noise level!

Much better than any AC regenerator with no warm up period due to internal amplifier in regenerator.
@inna- whenever I am in a medical facility, I'm checking out their A/C receptacles, and other gizmos. They have cool toys! #nolobotomy
:)
a while back I needed what you want and was recommended the Wiremold ULBH6-15 from a well respected audio tech.  It has a 15 ft.-14 gauge cord.  hospital grade with no switches in the circuit.
I think the Wiremold tip is very useful. And of course, I totally agree with Inna.
No, Bill , no lobotomy. But some of us could possibly benefit from a shot of something from time to time. Just don't do cocktails.
