What's up with Soundstage Direct?

They have been my go to source for new music for years. In the past 8 months, orders have been very slow. E-mails and calls are very sketchy. Anyone else have thoughts here?

As of this morning, when I enter

Anybody know anything about Reverb and when they obtained/took over/??? Soundstage Direct?
Same here.  I gave up on them.  Ordered an LP and after a month  never received it.  Left messages, sent emails and never returned messages.  Finally got through and asked them to just cancel the order
@waldmann,

Appreciate you’re chiming in.

BTW guys, I triple-checked all of my receipts and realized I had one more to deal with. Luckily my bank has a more liberal policy regarding (time) to make a claim. After their 60 days, SSD, did not respond to them at all. I got my refund.

Hi Guys, I'm from Speakers Corner Records in Germany. We have an open invoice with SSD about almost EUR 10.000,-, which is around $11.500,-. They ordered from us since 2011 in regular terms. The last order was the biggest ever and suddenly they were gone ...
Thanks for sharing. I am so sorry to hear this - it really sounds deliberate on SSD's part.  I think many people don't recognize how much in sales you need to rack up in order to offset a loss of this size.
Amazon Pay came through for me with a refund on the unshipped portion of my April order.  I hope everyone else is getting refunds.
Hi Guys, I'm from Speakers Corner Records in Germany. We have an open invoice with SSD about almost EUR 10.000,-, which is around $11.500,-. They ordered from us since 2011 in regular terms. The last order was the biggest ever and suddenly they were gone. No payment, no contact, no phone working, nothing. We even had to pay their freight costs to UPS as they gave them a bad check. Since the last order was so big, I'm sure, all this was planned to get the most money out of a sudden disappearance.
But to you as customers: you can't expect a 20% discount on the price for good analog vinyl reissues! There has to be a certain price level to make the whole thing going. Production, licenses, shipment to the US, dealer margin, aso...Buy from Acoustic Sounds or Music Direct, those companies are reliable and get our product very regularly. Thanks, Christiane
This really sucks.  I live in Doylestown and whenpurchasing from SSD would always just walk over and pick up my order.  I have know Seth for his days at PRE and is is a good guy.  A few weeks ago I was grabbing my morning bagel and chatted with him for a min.  No mention of issues.  Another buddy comes over to me right after and tells me that SSD is going out of business but did not give a reason.  I will see if I can dig up some info because I do not like dishonesty.  Hope to have info tomorrow after my bagel.  Peace.
hey the link to buy a gift-certificate still works!

read somewhere they fled to Ohio, hope that makes this a Federal racketeering criminal charge
really disappointing , 20 years of online retail and never been ripped off before.  $96. for 5 albums down the drain.
How do people do this to others? You know you're in financial trouble so you keep taking money and digging a deeper and deeper hole?
I'm guessing those that got refunds got the money from PP and CC company insurance funds and not because those companies were able to recover any of the costs.

What about the other people that worked there, anyone been able to reach any of them ? Karen or Rob?

Thanks for your patience!

Sincerely,

I just spoke with the record company and they estimate end of May/early June for 2112. Please let me know how you wish to proceed.

Hey everyone. Jim from Reverb/Reverb LP writing—first time post.

Just wanted to make sure everyone knew that Reverb did not acquire Sound Stage Direct. They signed up as an affiliate site after they closed down their website.

If you're having any sort of customer service issue, direct line there is customerservice@soundstagedirect.com.

Taken from the Steve Hoffman Forums Thread.
So someone is still doing something as SSD if they did this AFTER they shutdown.
It's time to close the book on SSD or to believe that anything ordered from SSD will be fulfilled by Reverb.  Some of us were told by SSD that the new company that purchased SSD was going to fulfill open orders (more lies!)  I inquired, as did bamalama, and here's what I got back from Reverb:

Hi there,

My name is Maddie, thanks for writing us here at Reverb LP.

Unfortunately, Reverb LP would be unable to review purchases made through SoundStage Direct. For any outstanding SoundStage Direct orders, or questions about any previous business with SoundStage Direct, please contact them at customerservice@soundstagedirect.com.

To ensure music fans still have access to great vinyl, Soundstagedirect.com is forwarding incoming traffic to Reverb LP, a new home for buying and selling records.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know. We would be happy to help!

Best,

Maddie N. | Customer Engagement / LP Support

In the last few days, I have tried to do a search on the website with no luck.  I was able to scroll through the multitude of listing to find items that I wanted.  Tonight (Oct. 1) when I entered the address for Sound Stage Direct, it took me to ReverbLP site!  Tried a few times, and even did a search.  I am sad if they have gone by the wayside.  There were still a number of colored vinyl Lp's that I was wanting to acquire! It is a sign of the times.  My fav. shoe co. web site also appears to be out of business (brutini). :-(
Their site now redirects you to Reverb. I've contacted Reverb re: my unfulfilled order and I'll let you know what response or product I receive.
Happy to report that I was refunded the full amount of my purchase after contesting the charge with my bank. And it was a big chunk of change because I had sprung for a VPI tonearm upgrade. kudos to this thread and others like it - it can only help to let people share their experiences and make them public and accessible to investigators too. So I hope that affected customers keep posting here. Hopefully at some point we'll get an idea of what exactly is going on with this once reliable company.
Thanks @manleylabs for being the one equipment manufacturer willing to step up and say something.
Same deal with me no response from them, can't get in touch with them. No return emails and no phone service all you get is the recorded message
Wow what's up with SSD I can't get them to return emails, phone calls. Must of sent them 5 emails, call every day dooring there business hours and just get there service message. Can't leave a message. I am trying to cancel 2 pre orders so I can get the money back anyone else having the same thing. I really liked buying from them. Free delivery,  20%off deals. HELP
Contacting the BBB might help, but if I were needing to get matters resolved I would get in touch with the Attorney General's office in Harrisburg, PA to see what can be done, since SSD is in PA. At least the guy's physical address and non toll-free phone number are on the website, which should be helpful in tracking him down.
AVOID! SoundStageDirect hasn't paid their past due invoice to Manley Labs. Nobody will reply to emails or answer the phone. I don't know how to get them to remove my products from their website as we cannot get hold of anybody. All we can do is get the word out that this company is in the Death Throes... AVOID!
I also heard from Paypal today. Ruled in my favor and refunded me over $200 in oending orders. I should have know  them advertising Tom Petty/Heartbreakers Anthology boxset “warehouse find” as shady....
I received an email from PayPal today, notifying me that they had approved my claim and refunded the $199.98 I paid SoundStageDirect.com January 19 for two copies of Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water MFSL One-Step Box Set. Hope the rest of you have the same kind of luck.
I bought 15 albums from them more than 3 months ago and never received them. Finally had to open a PayPal claim to get my money back.

Soundstagedirect was unresponsive to email inquiry's.
Phone calls went to a message saying please call during normal business hours which of course it was.
"Anyone else have thoughts here?"  Yeah- These guys:  http://www.elusivedisc.com/   I've been buying equipment and music from them, for a least the past decade, without the first disappointment.
I just received my credit from my CC company. The whole process took all of 3 weeks to get my money back. Cant wait till I see Seth at another Doylestown function so I can tell him what a jackass he is.
It won't do any good to file a complaint with the BBB.  I did last month and just received an email from the BBB.  SoundStage Direct is not responding to them either.  Here is my reply from the BBB:

This message is in regard to your complaint submitted on 8/7/2018 against SoundStage Direct, LLC. Your complaint was assigned ID 13014068.

We have written to the firm referenced above on two previous occasions. Since we have not received a reply to our requests for a response, a final notice will be sent to the company today.

Perhaps the firm has already contacted you. If so, please advise us of the situation immediately. If you do not hear back from us, it means that our attempts at conciliation have been exhausted and you may wish to contact an attorney or your local or state office of consumer affairs to pursue the matter further.

Please know that we are, unfortunately, not able to compel a firm to answer and resolve complaints. Since this firm is not a BBB Accredited Business, it is not obligated to respond and resolve consumer complaints with us.

In those few instances where our requests have been ignored, the information is made a part of the firm's file at the BBB. In many cases this will result in the issue of an adverse BBB Business Review on the firm.

Please feel free to contact us with any further questions.

Regards.

The downside, going forward is we probably won't see the major on-line record sellers offering 20% anymore.
Update: I’ve received refunds on all of my orders I placed with a credit card and paypal.

With some cc companies, there may be a time limit you have to file.
I placed 2 orders totalling over $200 in late June/early July. Haven’t received them and they will not answer multiple emails or phone calls. I get the same message to call back during business hours when they should be there. Thanks for the advice on the Paypal claim. I reported them and we will see what happens. I am thinking of reporting them to the BBB as well. I have spent at least $1,000 with them over the past few years, very dissapointing.
Contact your credit card company to get the charges reversed NOW.  SSD's policy of charging your credit card ON THE DATE OF YOUR ORDER is contrary to musicdirect, acousticsounds, and elusivedisc.  These companies charge your card WHEN THE ORDER SHIPS.  Seems that SSD has had a cash flow problem for some time.

CONTACT YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY NOW.
I am having the same problem. Ordered an album on June 18, 2018 and nothing. They charged my credit card and nothing.  I call and get a message telling me to call back during business hours. I send emails to their customer service and nothing. My next call is to my credit card company. If they are shut down, why are they still sending promo emails and why is their website still active and accepting orders? I really feel bad for anyone who has ordered equipment from them.

Unanswered emails and phone calls....aaaaalways a bad sign, and one of the most obvious "company is in trouble" clues.   So glad I acted fairly quickly and got my paypal refund.
For all that have orders or even thinking of ordering from SSD don’t and go directly to your CC company or file a case on PayPal I did and got my money back over 200.00 also filed with the BBB there are tons of complaints filed against them! This place is done, gone and took the money and ran!
Yes, very sad.  I had ordered from them many times over a few years and always received everything in good order.  However, my last two orders ($68 & $81 worth of vinyl) from early and mid-June never arrived, and by August I had found that no emails, web forms, or calls were being returned or answered, so I ended up appealing to PayPal and Amazon Pay for refunds for the two orders (I'd paid for them in the two different places).  I was able to get my money back from both and will stick with Music Direct or Amazon unless there is a serious explanation and SoundStage can restore their reputation.
I’m suspecting they are out of business. I placed an order for 3 lps  with 25% off on May 17 and have emailed them 4 x , including through PayPal and no response except on June 2, saying they were back ordered. My subsequent emails to cancel have not been answered and I also got some bogus phone message about calling back during business hours during their business hours . I’m afraid it’s calling my credit card company next to dispute. Thank god I didn’t order an expensive turntable!
I pre-ordered two copies of Mobile Fidelity’s UltraDisc pressing of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water in January 2018. The box set was released last week, but my pre-paid orders from SoundStageDirect were a no-show. After numerous failed phone calls and emails, I filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, https://www.attorneygeneral.gov/submit-a-complaint/. Maybe a little legal pressure will get Seth’s attention.
I just filed a case against SSD with the BBB, this is not acceptable and will make sure they feel my course of action against them! I work hard for my money and flat out got  ripped off as many others! Time to feel the pressure SSD! Karma is coming!
To all those that have been ripped off get in touch with Paypal and your credit card companies,  file a case against SSD this place is done they have yet to respond to me or paypa and l there are many others in the same boat!  also file a case with the BBB and let SSD feel the pressure of the people taking action against those that decided to take our money and disappear!

Add another one to the pile ...  I paid for a new VPI tonearm under the trade-in program about two months ago.  no responses, no nothing.  checking in with the bank now to see if I can find redress.  Fun!

Btw - VPI is aware of the problem but apparently is just as much in the dark about the situation as everyone else.
Last week I contacted my credit card company about the purchase I had made from SoundStage Direct that had never arrived.  I was pleasantly surprised to see a refund in full from SoundStage Direct into my bank account today.
They owe me the majority of a 100$ order and are unreachable by phone and by email for weeks now I’ve recieved 1 out of my 4 records on my order and now it’s been like 3 months and it’s like they packed up shop or something- I want my records or a refund or even a response for that matter!           - Greg Griffin

I will find out whats going on soon thru paypal they investigate and make things right, I got some kind of automated reply that delays are from release dates mine was supposed to be july 27th that was last release date and this is really crazy due to only hearing great things about SSD we will see!
I have contacted them for weeks now all i get is back up answer and auto reply emails I have preordered 8 albums release date July 27th and nothing I have filed a case thru paypal against them I have noticed that you cant place an order either so I take it they have shut down! I will get my money back thankfully have a protection plan. Credit card people need to go to their bank and file a claim as well doesn't sound like they are coming back i have been trying for over 2 straight weeks to get in touch with them and only automated replies email and answering machine voice recording
Hope what @crasher was told is true. That would be good for those with outstanding orders and maybe for the rest of us if a new company puts its best foot forward and becomes a reliable vinyl source.

I just got an email response from one of their customer service reps who I reached out to directly after weeks of trying other methods.

Here's what she sent me, but I'm not sure how much faith I have:

Very sorry for delay, we have a new company coming in and they will be filling all vinyl orders

The transition has taken longer then everyone expected..There is a very happy ending
I had an order in dating back to early June. It has never taken this long to get LP's from them. I first tried emailing them, after waiting a few days and not getting a reply, I tried calling them. I just keep getting a recorded message telling me to call back during normal business hours (WHAT?!?!). Anyway, had to file with PayPal from 2 of the open orders I have with them. I have read that the original owner is no longer in control of the business, that someone else has purchased the company, and that the company is bankrupt! I don't know which is accurate, but regardless one thing is for sure is that they're being unresponsive and my orders were never received. So I recommend if you have any orders with them, you file with your Credit Card Companies and or PayPal while there's a slim chance of getting your money back!! So irresponsible and disappointing.
It appears that they might have taken their website down.  At least nobody else can get ripped off like the rest of us!
